About this property

This 17th century, stone-built terraced cottage is located close to the centre of the attractive town of Kirkby Stephen, near to all the town’s amenities and the railway station. This historic, cosy cottage dates back to 1671 and is full of original features with beams and latch doors, but also has modern conveniences with a well-equipped kitchen and bathroom. The sitting room has beams and a woodburning stove and is a cosy room to enjoy after a day exploring the surrounding area. Both the sitting room and kitchen have a dining area and are tastefully and thoughtfully decorated to suit the history of the cottage. To the front of the cottage is a lovely sunny lawned garden or you can step into the back patio to enjoy the evening sun with an alfresco meal. The comfortable bedrooms have added character with beams, sloping ceilings and views to the fells from the second floor bedroom. This is an ideal cottage for family and friends wishing to explore this stunning area, with the market town amenities of Kirby Stephen a stone’s throw away with a choice of pubs, cafés and antique shops. This lovely cottage is an excellent base for exploring the Eden valley and there are walking tours available from the door. The glorious Howgills are close by and the famous coast to coast walk devised by Alfred Wainwright passes the town. Close by is the local station to the Settle-Carlisle railway, making this cottage a perfect location to explore the Yorkshire Dales, Northumberland National Park or the Lake District National Park. This delightful cottage is an ideal choice to enjoy a holiday in this area at any time of the year.

The old market town of Kirkby Stephen lies at the foot of the Howgill Fells in the upper Eden Valley, between the Lake District and Yorkshire Dales National Parks. The traditional market town hosts a variety of shops, cafes, restaurants and pubs for every taste and budget. A delightful rural town with a thriving local community and many traditional old dwellings, Kirkby Stephen boasts cobbled old yards, quaint corners and a pretty picnic area where “Frank’s Bridge” crosses the River Eden, while just a mile from the town, the old railway station connects to the magnificent Settle-Carlisle Railway line, a must-do travel experience for everyone.
