Sheltered by St. Boniface Down, one of the island's highest points and an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, this charming town has a uniquely mild micro climate enabling tropical and exotic plants to grow throughout the area. The gently sloping sandy and fine shingle beaches and coves provide excellent facilities for watersports and offer a range of stunning coastal paths to explore, while the harbour sells a broad range of fresh fish and locally-caught seafood. Ventnor is one of the Isle of Wight’s most prestigious food destinations with a good variety of high-quality restaurants,

Bistros, pubs and shops along the esplanade and close to the town centre. The Botanical Gardens are within easy reach and well worth a visit, whilst around the island there are great walking and cycling opportunities, medieval castles, historic houses and a variety of gardens and waterfalls, as well as the unspoilt fishing bay. Our only downside was in the description of the cottage stating that there was a ground floor bedroom and bathroom which is one of the main reasons we booked the cottage as my husband has had a big operation on his pelvis and is unable to access stairs and as there are actually four steps up to the bathroom we had great difficulty getting him up them. We still managed to have a wonderful time though.

A couple of minus points: 1. Lack of toilet rolls. When we arrived late afternoon there was only half a wc roll in the downstairs shower room. None elsewhere in the house, not ideal when arriving with an upset stomach. 2. There were no instructions for the oven and the seal on the inside oven door fell off on initial opening. The oven didn't have accurate temp control, perhaps due to the issue with the door seal. Generally a lovely stay but the 5 star potential let down by the above, especially toilet roll or lack of.

One of the best cottages we have stayed in, will most certainly be coming back.
