With log burners for cosy winter breaks and an outside dining area with a gas BBQ, Ballarat House provides a warm welcome at any time of the year.

The holiday home in Margate is a beautiful blend of style and location, sleeping ten people in five bedrooms and having a layout that suits families, extended families and friends. The owners have gone to town with the decor, returning this elegant beauty to its original glory while including contemporary features that make it comfortable and welcoming for 21st-century guests. Margate's famous seafront, cafes, bars, shops, and restaurants are all within strolling distance.

Margate has had a revival with a vibe that is cool rather than kiss-me-quick kitsch. Over the last ten years or so, people have come to realise that all the things Victorians loved about this seaside resort are still there. Kids can't get enough of the sandy beaches and amusements while enjoying fresh fish and chips on the sand is a pleasure that transcends all generations. Take a ride on the oldest wooden rollercoaster in the UK at Dreamland, where there are also vintage rides, live music, and places to eat and drink. Margate attracts artists, writers and musicians, giving it a thriving creative scene with the nickname of Shoreditch-on-Sea.

As well as spending time on one of the many beaches, you can browse the independent shops along the seafront, visit the Shell Grotto, take in a show at the Margate Winter Gardens, or catch an exhibit at the Turner Contemporary. Go swimming in the tidal pool or walk along the 27-mile Viking Coastal Trail past Botany Bay to Broadstairs, where you can tour the Dickens House Museum. Hire a bicycle and cycle along the white cliffs to the Reculver Country Park. Train buffs should not miss the Hornby Visitor Centre, or why not jump on a full-sized train and spend a day sightseeing and shopping in London before returning to the seaside to grab a sundowner as the sunsets.

Accommodation Comprises:

The restoration of Ballarat House represents a two-year labour of love, with the owner using her design skills to renovate and redecorate from top to bottom. Accommodation is over three levels.

Ground Floor:

Climb the chic monochrome steps and walk through the original front door into an impressive hallway.

Settle back on the sofas with a drink to reminisce about the day's adventures and plan for tomorrow, or turn on the TV and enjoy a film or series on Netflix. The log burner adds to the cosy atmosphere in winter, while big sash windows keep it feeling cool in summer.

Cooking and eating in the well-appointed kitchen will become some of your most cherished holiday memories. As with the rest of the house, the room is stylish and functional, with a substantial antique table and bench seating, a modern range cooker, and a Lavazza coffee pod machine. Cupboards are well-stocked with all of the equipment and utensils you'll need to cook and serve meals.

First Floor:

Every bedroom has a unique style and is named after a prominent feature of the house or the area.

Seascapes is a double room with a king-sized bed, built-in storage, an original marble decorative fireplace, and a balcony with views towards the beach.

Tamarisk is another opulently decorated double room with a king-sized bed and proper storage. The window overlooks the garden.

Sunshine has zip-and-link beds that can either be a king or two singles, depending on your requirements. Please specify your preferred layout when booking.

Sunrise is another twin/king room on a smaller mezzanine level.

Lower Ground Floor:

Alexanders has a king-sized bed and views of the rear patio. It's a spacious room with an Art Deco wardrobe and a sideboard.

Ragwort can either be a second living area or a sixth bedroom. The sofa opens into a double bed, and there's a log burner and a TV with Netflix, shelves with books and games, a kitchen and dining space.

Outside: Landscaped garden with limestone paving, an outdoor dining area, gas barbecue, and play area. Free parking is available on the street.

Additional Information: Utilities, WiFi, bedding and bath towels are provided. Guests to bring beach towels if required. There is a cot and high chair available on request. Parties are not allowed, and guests must be quiet and respectful after 10pm as it is a residential area. Smoking is not permitted.
