About this property

This Grade II listed cottage, complete with a traditional thatched roof, rests on the edge of the delightful village of Mullion, the largest on The Lizard. In an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, Clahar Cottage is an endearing base for a family looking to explore a part of Cornwall immersed with picturesque fishing ports, long stretches of sandy beaches and some of the country's finest scenery. Upon entering the whitewashed cottage, you are welcomed into the contemporary interior with delightful farmhouse touches. Prepare delicious home-cooked meals within the kitchen to enjoy together around the dining table, where a striking ESSE cooker takes centre stage. After dinner, step into the sitting room where you can curl up on the sofa with a cup of tea in hand to catch up on TV, whilst the woodburning stove fills the room with warmth during those chilly winter evenings. As the evening draws to a close, venture up the staircase to retire to one of the three stylish king-size bedrooms, one having a cosy en-suite where you can look forward to enjoying a warming soak in the roll top bath. There is the option to convert one of the bedrooms into a twin if required.

During the warmer months, you can look forward to spending time within the garden area, where you can soak up the sun with a refreshing beverage whilst enjoying the tranquil surroundings. If you can tear yourself away from this delightful spot, a short stroll will bring you to a selection of eateries and pubs, and a number of shops for picking up any holiday treats and necessities. To keep you busy whilst staying here, you and your companions will be delighted to explore The Lizard Heritage Coast, perhaps enjoying the views from the South West Coast Path. Close to the Cottage, you can walk to the local beaches, where you can either spend an afternoon at the pretty harbour cove of Mullion, the beautiful and more secluded Polurrian Bay, or the National Trust's Poldhu Cove, where Marconi sent his first

Transatlantic radio message in 1901.You can enjoy surfing here and refreshment at the beach cafe, open 363 days per year. At the Polurrian Bay Hotel, perched above the beach, you can enjoy stunning views across the Atlantic. For a small daily fee, take advantage of their leisure facilities including indoor and outdoor pools, spa and tennis courts. A short drive away is Kynance Cove - also National Trust - famous for its turquoise seas and for where Poldark was filmed. A little further north takes you to the bustling and picturesque harbour resort of Porthleven, tipped as Cornwall's next food hotspot. If golf is your thing, Mullion Golf Club offers fine scenery and views down to the links holes running towards the beach and Gunwalloe Church. For those feeling more active, head to Coverack which is popular due to its superb windsurfing conditions. For something more leisurely, spend an afternoon at the National Trust's Lizard Point where you can take in the views from the most Southern point of England, or to the north east lies the Helford River and the beautiful day sailing waters around its estuary. Clahar Cottage is certainly a heart-warming getaway to this wonderful corner of Cornwall.

This large village rests on the Lizard Peninsula, just five miles away from Helston and over five miles away from Lizard Point. Within the village you will find a selection of restaurants, shops and pubs, Mullion Meadows Chocolate Factory and coffee shop, as well as Mullion Cove. Close by is the market town of Helston which is famous for its Flora Day Festival. Further afield is the harbour town of Falmouth and Land's End to the west.

Bedrooms are lovely, good to have two doubles en suite as well as the twin room. Boot room and downstairs bathroom very useful. Well equipped kitchen. It was all lovely and comfortable. And we could connect our phones to the TV so listen to music! Thank you

Loved how the lamps and heating was on when we arrived, made us feel so welcome. Had a problem with the Esse beeping when we got there that the instructions didn't explain properly how to stop. After making a call to the housekeeper we discovered the fuse box and turned the Esse off. That sorted the problem out but it was a bit of a stressful hour. However, that was the only small issue, we had a great stay and will book with Sykes again.

It was full of spiders webs full of dead flies, filthy drawers and dirty utensils covered in hair and fluff in the kitchen drawer, dead flies in mugs. A damp mouldy smell in the cupboard where the glasses are kept. Lastly on removing the bedding on the last day the mattress and duvet were filthy. Covered in stains and dirt of what origins I do not want to imagine. I felt horrified and violated that we had slept in a bed in such a filthy state. If I had realised at the beginning of the holiday I can honestly say we would have come home. I took photos and sent them to Sykes, as yet so am waiting for a response regarding this. I’m disappointed in Sykes as I always use them to book holidays but will reconsider in future. Especially if a satisfactory response is not received. I’m not usually someone that complains but I definitely feel this is more than warranted.
