About this property

Perched in a fantastic location overlooking the River Dart on the outskirts of Dartmouth near the mouth of the river is Bunbury House. This fabulous and historic holiday home benefits from a welcoming interior which has been thoughtfully renovated, successfully melding original, character features like exposed beams with contemporary appliances and stylish decor, an off-road parking space, breath-taking views from multiple rooms of the River Dart and Kingswear, a close proximity to the town's amenities and to the fun-filled Dartmoor National Park; the perfect setting for families or friends looking to explore Devon. Cross the threshold into your new home from home and unwind by flicking on the Smart TV and sinking into the plush corner sofa before stepping through to the fully-equipped kitchen to rustle up tasty meals. Enjoy your culinary creations at the spacious dining table or step outside to the side patio where you can dine alfresco with beautiful views and the soothing sound of the flowing river. On colder evenings, the house offers a conservatory and first-floor sitting room where the views can still be admired from the warmth with a glass of wine in hand. Before bed, wash off the day in either of the two shower rooms before choosing between a king-size with en-suite bathroom, a large single or twin to catch up on some sleep. Follow the curve of the river to discover quaint beaches like Sugary Cove and Compass Cove, while away warmer days here, admiring the picturesque views over the English Channel while the kids splash around in the sea. The fantastic, 630-mile long South West Coast path also runs through the area providing keen ramblers with endless opportunities to explore charming seaside towns dotted along the route. A short stroll in the other direction takes you into the heart of Dartmouth which benefits from an excellent selection of restaurants, pubs and take-aways offering delicious food, wine and ales. Explore the narrow streets around the harbour where you’ll find boutique shops, art galleries, river boat trips and much more. The town is also well provided with convenience stores - the Co-op, M&S Food and Sainsburys are easily accessible for your everyday needs. Notable nearby attractions include Dartmouth Castle, Agatha Christie’s former home Greenway and the Brixham Battery; popular attractions in the market town of Totnes, the popular Paignton and the wonder Dartmoor National Park are easily accessible by car. All this and more awaits at Bunbury House.

Located in South Devon's favoured South Hams region, Dartmouth is a scenic town on the estuary's banks of the River Dart. Dartmouth is a major tourist attraction in Devon due to its proximity to the shore and the fact that it is located inside an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. Dartmouth is known for its beautiful waterfront, its historic, winding alleyways filled with quaint shops, cafes, and galleries, and its many yearly events, including the Dart Music Festival, the Port of Dartmouth Royal Regatta, and the Dartmouth Food Festival, all of which take place in October. The South West Coast Path, the Dart Valley Trail, and many peaceful rural lanes make the area around Dartmouth ideal for bicycling and walking. Take a ride on the Dartmouth Steam Railway through the countryside to Paignton, and then continue on to the charming harbour town of Brixham by boat. Blackpool Sands, winner of the Blue Flag Award, and Slapton Sands, a popular beach not far from Dartmouth, are just two of the many options available to beachgoers in the South Hams area. Situated in tranquil South Devon, this is the perfect place to unwind.

But when we paid over £1200 for three nights it was exceedingly disappointing that the dishwasher did not work at all, we did report this at the time. This must have been an issue prior to our stay as we noticed there was an unused tablet in the dispenser when we came to try and use the machine to begin with. Clearly when having a holiday, a priority is NOT having to do the washing and drying up. I look forward to hearing from Sykes concerning how we will be compensated for this please.

Advertised with parking space for small car which nearly put us off renting it. In fact there was a very large parking space? Strange! Thought the welcome pack was a bit stingy! 2 weeks before we rented a villa through CVVILLAS. They provided bread, butter, milk, wine, endless dishwasher tabs., etc.. Concerning the latter you provided 2. 3 would have lasted the week. Food for thought. Otherwise all good apart from water leak in sitting room.

Lots of period features throughout, with a lovely modern kitchen and upper floor. Excellent quality mattress, and furnishings. Fantastic views across the River Dart, watching boats in a beautiful setting. Views from nearly every window. Due to age of the property, there are various different floor levels, which did catch me out unfortunately. Care is needed going up/ down stairs, and accessing the garden, which might be a concern if not agile. We would recommend a smaller car for easier access to this property. Dartmouth is a delightful, historic town and we enjoyed it, and our trips on the ferry to Kingswear very much.
