About this property

Extensive gardens, rich in history and character, and sleeping up to 26 guests, this beautiful grand property is ideal for large groups of friends or families and comes complete with well-equipped games room.

Base for a large gathering of families or friends for a special occasion. The characterful former rectory has 13 bedrooms sleeping 26 guests and is comfortably furnished in traditional style. Set in extensive, mature gardens on the Shotley peninsula, it is close to the rivers Stour and Orwell and within easy reach of the Dedham Vale Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty.

All the rooms in this impressive Suffolk retreat are spacious, and airy, with large, light-filled windows. On the ground floor are two peaceful living rooms, one with French doors to the garden. There is also a vast games room, and an impressive formal dining room with space for everyone to enjoy communal meals. The kitchen is fitted with all the equipment you might need, or for outside catering during your stay. Completing the ground floor are three appealing double bedrooms. The first-floor houses ten bedrooms, comprising doubles and twins, and there are 11 bathrooms across both floors. Outside, the lovely garden has beautiful specimen trees, a suntrap patio with a BBQ area, picnic benches and a large lawn with ample room for games.

Peaceful Tattingstone sports two village pubs, and a children’s playground, with lovely walks and cycle paths nearby. Directly opposite your holiday home is the Alton Water reservoir, covering 400 acres of countryside. Hire equipment to sail, windsurf and paddle board on this man-made lake or follow an 8-mile cycle and walking trail around the water. Be sure to visit Dedham Vale (8 miles), known as Constable Country and made famous by artist John Constable’s local landscape paintings such as The Hay Wain.

  • Mr Ellis

The Old Rectory Tattingstone provided an ideal base for our group of sixteen "over-sixties". We were all able to have an ensuite room. The library, and the dining room were rooms where we all of us could gather together, but the range of other communal areas meant that everyone could find their own space if they wanted to. The games room, with air hockey, pool, table football and table tennis was very popular. The lake is a short walk away, as is the White Horse, which coped well with our large group for Sunday lunch.

  • Mrs Badgery

Huge house, all bedrooms large. Plenty of communal space. 3 large fridges. Beautiful location within walking distance of 2 pubs, and some lovely walks directly from the house. John the house manager was very welcoming, and very helpful. Would return.

  • Mr Vardon

There were 23 of us ranging from 8 to 80 years old and this house was perfect.
