About this property

Steps rise from the drive at the side of the L shaped cottage to a large raised patio where the door opens to the entrance hall. The original barn has been converted into a wonderful open plan living space with seating around the modern wood burning stove, a dining area, and well-equipped kitchen with great views. The beautiful bedroom at the other side of the hall has two sets of double doors encouraging you to make the most of the idyllic location and a smart ‘Jack and Jill’ bathroom sits between the hall and bedroom.

As the name implies, Bird Cottage is the perfect place to unwind and enjoy sights and sounds of the local birdlife – frequent visitors including barn owls, little owls and greater spotted woodpeckers with their distinctive bouncing flight. Enjoy walks through neighbouring meadows down to the river where there are kingfishers and otters, or have a game of tennis (by arrangement with the owners). There’s ample parking, an east-facing patio with bistro-style table and chairs for morning coffee and the large south-facing terrace to relax as the sun moves round.

Ground Floor

There’s a warm welcome as you enter the light hallway with bathroom and bedroom doors opening off it and steps leading through the original timber door-frame into the lofty open plan living space.

Living Space

Wonderfully light and airy with a high ceiling supported by exposed beams and stud work. Double doors open from the living area to the east-facing terrace and private garden – great for the summer months, and a modern designer log burner exudes heat throughout the room in the winter.

The sitting area’s furnished with a sofa and a couple of comfy armchairs with an ottoman and large TV whilst the dining area has a circular table with four chairs plus butlers and console tables.

Equipped with electric oven, grill, ceramic hob with extractor, and a slimline dishwasher, the view of the surrounding countryside from the expanse of windows in the kitchen is stunning. A stable door opens to the south-facing deck – ideal for dining in the fresh air in the summer months.

Bedroom

A perfect place for a good night’s sleep, this spacious and elegant double aspect room has a super king zip and link bed so you can be set up as a twin on request. Two sets of double doors open to the front patio and there’s a handsome antique wardrobe, bedside drawers, inviting chair and an A frame mirror.

En Suite Bathroom

This smart Jack and Jill bathroom; with ample space for the bath, double walk-in shower, basin, WC and heated towel rail; conveniently has doors from the bedroom and entrance hall.

Outside

Bird Cottage is located on a working farm in rural Suffolk; the detached L shaped cottage wraps round a large curved south facing patio - a sun trap for those seeking to soak up some rays - which is furnished for relaxing in the open air and enjoying the birdlife and scenery and well designed to give guests privacy. There’s also a smaller secluded east-facing patio and garden with bistro-style table and chairs.

There is private allocated parking for up to 3 cars.

The owners live a short distance away, enough to give you the reassurance of twinkling lights in the night but not too close for comfort and they invite you to enjoy walks through the meadows where you’ll see red poll cattle grazing in the summer, down to the river to enjoy exceptional bird and wildlife. If you’re feeling more energetic you can also have a game of tennis by prior arrangement.

Holidays don’t get any more relaxing than this! The outside patio area is bright and sunny and has patio furniture all ready for you to enjoy spending time together alfresco. Close to the delightful village of Grundisburgh, Bird Cottage is well located to make the most of everything that’s on offer in Suffolk with Woodbridge just a few miles away known for its shops, markets, activities on the River Deben and its Tide Mill, a rare example of a tide mill with a working water wheel. Other nearby attractions include Framlingham Castle, Sutton Hoo, Melford Hall, Africa Alive Zoological Reserve and Yoxford Antiques Centre and Gardens. Take a scenic walk or hike anywhere within the Suffolk Coast and Heaths region which is a designated Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty and you’ll be rewarded with some breath-taking views and wonderful photo opportunities. Offering holiday accommodation with charm and character, Bird Cottage is the perfect place to stay.

Grundisburgh is a picturesque village located just 3 miles from Woodbridge and 6 miles from the county town of Ipswich. The village centre surrounds a wonderful green with a network of paths and roadways, some crossing the river via fords and bridges. Surrounding the green are beautiful houses, the church, a small selection of shops and a popular village pub offering excellent food. The village playing field has football pitches, tennis courts and a children's play area.

Obviously, your publicity photos were taken a long time ago ! The patio furniture was comfortable but crammed onto a poor space which could do with a pressure wash and some attention to encroaching vegetation. The front large patio, ideal for al fresco dining, was devoid of any furniture at all which was a pity and equally needs a good scrub. Hot water was ‘on demand’ but our demands were often ignored, particularly at the bathroom wash basin and the shower controls were aging and rather ‘cranky’ . You’ll love the location but perhaps conclude, as we did, that it’s time some money was spent to upgrade the facilities as this cottage does not currently justify the premium price bracket that it’s in . Our hosts were friendly and approachable and in spite of the criticisms we enjoyed our stay not least because of the glorious September weather.
