Alice Howe is part of The Terrace, Windermere - a unique row of five 4 star, grade II listed large holiday homes located in the heart of Windermere village, yet conveniently secluded from the hustle of the town in private grounds. Designed by AWN Pugin (perhaps more famous for designing the Palace of Westminster) these house are beautifully kept and as a result were awarded 'best contribution to the visual appearance to Windermere village' in 2008.
Named after the small hill behind the house Alice Howe sleeps 14 comfortably in 7 bedrooms with 7 ensuite or private bathrooms. Perfect for a large group holiday in the lakes. Each bedroom, white cotton bedding, TV and a number have DVD players.
There are 4 twin rooms, 2 with king-size four poster beds and 1 bunk-room. The lounge has sumptuous leather Chesterfield sofas to seat up to 15 people an open fire and a large flat screen TV.
There are two kitchen areas; the main kitchen is for cooking and socialising and features a 7-ring burner, twin oven range cooker, a wood burning stove, flat screen TV and rustic farmhouse table with benches. The second section of the kitchen is a gallery area, with 2 dishwashers, 2 American Fridge-Freezers it's a great area for storing all your local provisions.
The dining room has a huge table perfect for entertaining a group of 14. The room also has an open fire surrounded by a Pugin designed fireplace similar to the one he designed for Westminster Palace. It is also equipped with an Bose Companion 3 speaker unit to plug you laptop or phone into.
The rear walled courtyard enjoys a view to Orrest Head where Alfred Wainwright took his first view of the lake District - a view that changed his life for ever! The courtyard has a table and chairs perfect for dining alfresco and it's surrounding walls mean that it's usually protected from the wind.
As you'd imagine this big house in the Lakes has been thoughtfully decorated and furnished and consequently has been awarded 4 stars by Visit England.
Alice Howe is the perfect large house to rent in the lake district for a group of 14 for a holiday or weekend break.
