5 charming stone barns and one cottage in the heart of Weardale, Sleeping from 4-46, the properties are full of character and offer the perfect location for exploring the North Pennines Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty and the Durham Dales.
4 of the properties are situated on the owners small livestock farm on the edge of the village of Frosterly. The Gingang, Stables, Old Byre and River View cluster around an attractive courtyard with pond fountain, shrubberies and several seating areas. They share extensive gardens, a play area with swings and trampoline and a well stocked games room with pool table. They can be booked together to accommodate 27 guests.
The Gingang, a stone built barn conversion, can accommodate 10 people in its five bedrooms. There is an added bonus of one of the double bedrooms being located on the ground floor with its own shower room which has been adapted for the more elderly or partially disabled guests.
The Stables (sleeps 7),
Full of character with beamed ceilings and original 'arrow flight' windows. The Stables has wonderful views over the surrounding countryside. It has three bedrooms:1 bedroom with double bed and single bed, 1 double bedroom and 1 twin bedroom with en-suite shower room.
The Old Byre (sleeps 6),
Like The Stables, this former milking byre has beamed ceilings and original 'arrow flight' windows. Again The Old Byre has fabulous views over the countryside and the River Wear. It offers 3 bedrooms: 2 double bedrooms 1 twin.
River View (sleeps 4)
A lovely cottage, with beamed ceilings and fabulous views. It has one double and one twin bedroom.
Betsdale (sleeps 5) and the Old School (sleeps 14) are located in the village and together sleep 19.
The Old School is a large detached property set in the heart of the village and has been tastefully converted into extremely spacious holiday accommodation.
With its 7 bedrooms and three reception rooms it can accommodate up to 14 people - ideal for family gatherings, friends catching up, walking groups, etc.
Betsdale is a lovely cottage, full of character. Formerly an 18th Century barn, it sleeps 5 in 3 bedrooms: 1 double bedroom, 1 twin bedroom and 1 single bedroom
The North Pennines AONB offers stunning countryside with a rich industrial heritage. The energetic will find a plethora of walking and cycling routes from which to explore this incredible landscape of heath, upland meadow and dale. 4 major rivers have their headwaters in the area, and the countryside is studded with dramatic waterfalls. For the experienced kayaker, there are some serious challenges! Watersports are also available on Derwent Reservoir (15 miles).
The historic City of Durham, a World Heritage Site with a magnificent cathedral and castle is just 18 miles away. Explore the fortress town of Barnard Castle which boasts a medieval castle and the magnificent Bowes museum, built in the style of a French chateau (17 miles). Raby Castle is a 30 minute drive. For an day out with a difference, discover what life was like in North East England during the 1820s, 1900s and 1940s by visiting Beamish, a fantastic living and working open air museum (19 miles). For railway enthusiasts, Weardale Heritage Railway is less than a mile away.
