Spacious and superbly equipped country house situated on a 50 acre estate of gardens, woodland and fields in the beautiful High Weald AONB - near the East Sussex/Kent border. With excellent facilities and plenty of Victorian grandeur, Merrieweathers offers a wonderful blend of traditional elegance and modern comfort - the country house party for the 21st century.
Once home to Sir Thomas Brock, the celebrated sculptor, this fabulous old building has also seen life as a working farm and mill. Its eclectic history is shown in its many character features; Art Deco windows rub shoulders with Victorian stained glass and panelling, there are thick oak beams aplenty and open fires in all the living areas.
The magnificent entrance hall with sweeping wooden staircase, panelling, stained glass and galleried landing set the tone appropriately. The house itself is beautifully furnished in a traditional style with great attention to detail. The furniture, fabrics and appliances are all of the highest quality. The grand, oak panelled drawing room provides plenty of atmosphere, seats 18 and has a dining table that converts in to a snooker table. The library is a haven of leather and velvet.
Upstairs the Master bedroom has a 'wow factor', private attic dressing room with sunken double spa bath. In addition there is a private balcony overlooking the garden. The 2nd bedroom, the Maharajah Suite has a romantic 4 poster bed and an ensuite with roll top bath.
Though elegant and stylish, the house is primarily about fun and its excellent range of facilities reflect this. You will find a large open air heated swimming pool with its own BBQ terrace and changing room. A fabulous Games Lodge with its own bar (including optics and beer pumps) is sure to be a popular choice. It has a large cinema screen to entertain the troops along with table football, darts, bar billiards and a pool table. A log burner keeps things cosy. The Lodge also has its own terrace overlooking the lake.
Anglers will enjoy the three fishing lakes stocked with carp, tench, roach and rainbow trout. Need some peace and quiet? You can always sneak off in the rowing boat and read a book!
Of course no country house party is complete without a game of croquet on the lawn (set provided) or a set or two on the tennis court.
