Soval Lodge is 25 minutes south of Stornoway on the Isle of Lewis, Outer Hebrides.
The Lodge is taken by a party for a week - Saturday to Saturday. The fishing consists of some lovely fly only salmon fishing on the whole of the Laxay River, Loch Valtos and the three pools between the sea and Loch Valtos. We then have three boats on Loch Valtos itself. The river carries on up from Loch Valtos for another two miles with 8 named pools, to Loch Trealaval. In addition to this we have a boat on Loch Langavat which is the top end of the famous Grimersta system.
All the trout fishing at Soval is for wild brown trout and is available in up to 100 trout Lochs with boats on the best six. It is available from April until late September and often involves fishing in Lochs which are rarely fished.
Guests are looked after by our Head Keeper Michael Mackenzie along with two ghillies, Murdo and Tim - they are excellent at helping experienced fisherman or total beginners. An Agacat is available to help guests. We can include a good day’s stalking which often involves going in by boat and stalking in some wonderfully wild parts on the West side of the Island with lovely views out to sea. All our stalking is with our own stalker Tim, on the 50,000 acres of Hamanaway Estate and is charged at £340 per successful stag shot.
Guests would stay in Soval Lodge which is located in a lovely position overlooking Loch Erisort and the Harris Hills beyond. The Lodge sits on its own 500 acre farm one mile off the main road so it is in an unspoilt location. The Lodge consists of 7 double bedrooms- three with king size beds, a large sitting room, conservatory and dining room all of which enjoy panoramic views over the sea loch. Guests would be looked after by our Housekeeper and her team of girls who provide a cooked breakfast, packed lunch, afternoon tea and three course dinner. We serve fresh lobster one night a week.
We organise some wonderful boat trips out to sea where it is normal to spot, amongst other things, dolphins, porpoises and whales as well as fishing for the large number of sea fish available. This is a firm favourite with children.
Lewis has some wonderful beaches where you can walk for miles and not see a soul. There is much history on the island, adults and children alike will enjoy the Callanish Standing Stones, Carloway Broch and various Blackhouse villages. It is a remarkable and relaxing place for fishing or for a holiday without the sport.
A lovely week to fish for fresh salmon and sea trout. Stalking can also be included. £950 per person, for minimum of 5 rods to include all fishing, exclusive board and lodging in Soval Lodge. (Soval Lodge sleeps 15 so we can offer a price if people do not want to fish. Please enquire. (The Lodge always comes fully catered.)
