About this property

In the heart of the undulating, forested landscape of Istria, Villa Greda is the dream destination for a group in search of tranquillity, natural beauty and traditional charm with a modern touch.

Built almost one hundred years ago, in 1920, this villa is a unique home in the countryside which has maintained its thoroughly traditional appeal throughout its 2014 renovation! Indeed, this recent renovation served only to introduce a new, luxurious air of comfort, with full air-conditioning throughout the property and SAT TVs in each room.

The stone exterior complements the other features of the traditional architecture, including the delightful vaulted ceilings throughout! On the ground floor, there is perfect evidence of this magnificent fusion of old and new, with a stone interior wall contrasting with the utterly sleek and modern fittings of this thoroughly contemporary kitchen and dining room!

Alongside this room is the games room, with a large pool table, a TV and Play Station 3 and a drinks fridge, where you can get the party started!

The same exquisite effect of fresh white walls coated over the rustic stones is present throughout this floor. The spacious and elegant first-floor living room is somewhat more modern but is nonetheless completed by the large traditional fireplace.

There are four delightful bedrooms, two on the first floor and two on the second floor. All four elegantly design with a modern, minimalist style. One has an ensuite bathroom while there are two other bathrooms shared between the other rooms. All three bathrooms are bright and contemporary.

On the magnificent terrace and accompanying lawn you will find a table tennis set, table football, darts, badminton net and trampoline, so kids (and big kids!) of all ages will find their ideal spot among the sunshine and tranquil surrounds of rural Croatia!

The huge pool is set centrally amid the terrace as a grand centrepiece, with dazzlingly beautiful night lighting making it the perfect relaxation spot for all times of day!

Around the villa on the encircling terrace, you are spoilt for choice, with a dining area, cosy sofa zone, and an outdoor kitchen and barbeque, as well, of course, as plenty of sun loungers around the pool!

Just over half an hour away from Učka Nature Park, a sprawling protected area with hiking routes leading to canyons, waterfalls and historic sites, you’ll find unspoilt nature a stone’s throw away.

One-Third of the Istrian territory is forested, and the rest is carpeted with vineyards, olive trees, pastures and orchards, with ancient walled cities perched atop hills in the mountainous landscape, so you need merely stroll out your front door to find the richness of Istria.

Beautifully located in the countryside, Villa Greda enjoys the best of both sides of Istria. Just fifteen minutes away from Poreč, a town of culture, tourism, sport and entertainment with one of the most important Western Byzantine churches outside Italy, it is also the party hub of the peninsula, showing just how diverse this region is!

Just a little drive south of Poreč, you can’t miss the delightful Venetian coastal town of Rovinj half-way up the western coastline. Wander the old city, with its Venetian architecture and marble streets and admire the views across the marina before settling for a meal in one of its many beautiful sea-side restaurants. And be sure to stop off in Lim Bay, directly on the route – a dramatic Fjord stretching for miles inland, only 15 minutes from the villa!

A charming heart-shaped peninsula in the north-west of Croatia, Istria is warm, welcoming and perfectly-sized – you can drive the length in around an hour, putting everything within easy reach!

From breath-taking scenery, rich history and a world-famous culinary scene – you will find it all in Istria! As a former part of the Venetian Republic, this region has seen many rulers from the Romans, Byzantines and Austro-Hungarians to the Italians and Yugoslavians. Now, a myriad of enchanting towns and villages, rich in history and culture, are nestled among the undulating countryside.

Active holiday-makers will be delighted with the offerings: from windsurfing in Medulin to scuba diving in the Brijuni National park and rock climbing, hang-gliding and walking in Buzet along the 15km ‘seven waterfalls’ walk, Istria has it all.

Both along the dramatic coastal paths and in the mountains inland, you will find an abundance of natural paths for cycling (including the scenic Parenzana route over an old railway line from Viznada to the Slovenian border) and rugged off-road hiking trails. Pick up a trail-map from any of the Tourist Offices, for loads of well-marked routes around the coast and in the Cape Kamenjak.

Much like its neighbouring Italy, Istria is a gastronome’s paradise, home to world-class cuisine and endless rows of vineyards. Be sure to try the local wines, which are often sweet and fruity, using a wide variety of grapes including white Malvasia, red Terrano and Moscato. Istria is especially famous for its truffles, which you will find served with any dish and sauce!

Both Rijeka and Pula have international airports within a short drive of the villa, while Pula is the central hub for those getting ferries, although there is a daily ferry between Poreč and Venice.
