About this property

Feel like an aristocrat as you drive through the grand avenue that leads to this splendid villa, complete with its own park and swimming pool. Its décor is fit for royalty, every inch designed to ooze Italian class and make you feel comfortable. Nestled just in residential suburbs of stunning La Spezia, you’ll be amazed by the beauty of the grounds that surrounds you.

This opulent home has maintained its wonderful 19th century character, with marble statues, antique furnishings and meticulous finishing touches. A historic bronze water sculpture sits proudly in the large garden, surrounded by colourful flowers and trees. Swim in the inviting private pool, cooling off from the warm Italian sunshine. In the evening, dine al fresco in the garden with family and friends while the sun sets over the beautiful city – the perfect way to end a day.

This magnificent seven-bedroom manor is spacious and airy throughout. Large parties have the space to spread out; there are three grand living rooms and every bedroom benefits from its own beautifully decorated en suite. Relax with a glass of wine and your favourite book in the library that’s filled head to toe with literature. Cook up something delicious to eat in the kitchen, which is stocked with all the accessories you need to create a tasty meal. If you prefer, a continental breakfast can be arranged in advance for an additional cost.

Situated in a residential area near the heart of this vibrant town, there is lots to see and do; from shopping to eating out. Experience the taste of real Ligurian cuisine at the different restaurants dotted around and indulge in scrumptious local red wine. Wander around the historic streets, admiring the colourful houses and winding streets. La Spezia is home to many beautiful boats and various historical sites that are just waiting to be explored.

Take the train or boat to explore the Cinque Terre villages, discover the beautiful nearby Ligurian coast or head south to the fantastic seaside towns of Viareggio and Forte Dei Marmi. Pisa, Lucca and even Florence are also fantastic day trips during your time in this stunning part of Italy.

Villa du Chillon is set in a residential area of La Spezia, within walking distance to local restaurants and shops and a short drive from the harbour and historic heart of the town.

La Spezia is in an excellent location for not only exploring the Ligurian coast, including the Cinque Terre, but also for its easy connections onwards to Tuscany with trains to Pisa, Lucca and beyond. Enjoy walking along the waterfront taking in the spectacular scenery, explore the historical landmarks including the impressive 13th century San Giorgio Castle or discover the town’s important naval heritage. Trains from La Spezia take you to the Cinque Terre whilst keen walkers who wish to discover lesser known hiking trails have easy access to the Portovenere National Park. In the summer, boats run to Palmaria Island with its hidden caves and lovely pebble beaches.

The National Park of Cinque Terre crosses five idyllic fishing villages which are connected by boat, train or historic walking trails. The landscapes are steep and rugged and the views just spectacular. Discover vineyards and olive groves in this glorious setting with wild paths, medieval towers and an amazing coastline. The five villages include Monterosso al Mare with its amazing beaches, Vernazza, classified as one of Italy’s most beautiful villages, Corniglia, 100m above the sea and accessed only via the famous Lardarina footpath, charming Manarola and finally Riomaggiore to the south. Between Manarola and Rio Maggiore there is a famous “Path of Love” which is great for romantic walks.

There are many other beautiful villages along the Ligurian coastline to explore, many just as beautiful as the Cinque Terre yet often with less visitors. The lovely seaside town of Tellaro, twenty minutes south of La Spezia, is part of the ‘Gulf of Poets’ named after the fact that the region has inspired many poets in history including Byron and Shelley. Explore the narrow lanes, dine in a seafood osteria and relax on the stunning beach. Combine with a trip to the harbour town of Lerici on market day whilst keen walkers should follow the winding trail through olive groves to Montemarcello with amazing views of the gulf. Sea-worshippers should also head to the pine-backed beaches in Fiascherino.

If you’re a beach lover, head down to Viareggio (62km) and Forte Dei Marmi (51km) – two wonderful seaside towns that are filled with exciting things to do. Shopaholics will love the array of stores and Italian boutiques found at Forte Dei Marmi. The exclusive street market held every Wednesday and Sunday is great for finding some unique, high-fashion outfits.

Adrenaline junkies will get their kick at the various water-sports Viareggio has to offer. Surf the day away on the perfect waves and spend the night enjoying the lively nightlife. Every Easter, the village holds a festival that draws in visitors from all over the globe. Watch the colourful floats as they parade through the streets, with carnival acts and music creating a festive spirit. With an incredible atmosphere, various stalls and lots of dancing, this festival is not one to be missed.

Head to the city of Lucca (78km) for a wonderful day trip or Pisa (81km) is another great city you can reach by car or train from La Spezia. Florence (150km), also possible by train, is to experience what Italy is all about – great wine, delicious food and historical sites.

This was an amazing place to stay on a retreat with friends - we had about 10 people and everyone was very comfortable and had a wonderful time. The kitchen, bathrooms, electronics, showers, everything was new, in good condition and everything was what we needed. The property manager, met our needs and checked up on us, with professional promptness. We enjoyed the park, gazebos and the lovely pool. We are so thankful to have found this island paradise!

This was by far the best house I have ever rented in Italy. The sparkling clean home is beautifully furnished and has so many extras. The check-in process was amazingly provided by Mirella! She responded immediately to all text messages throughout our stay. The location is perfect as it is literally a 5-minute walk to downtown but also a short drive to so many villages to explore. The chefs in the family loved the kitchen and all of its upscale amenities and supplies. As a whole, we loved just all the space available to hang out! And my grandson took his first steps here so it will forever be remembered.

We dreamed of this vacation for many years and it finally came true. The Villa was absolutely gorgeous with completely renovated spacious & clean rooms and large comfortable beds. The villa is located a short drive from Lerici, Portovenere and Cinque Terre. We had a lot of fun visiting Monterosso al Mare and Portofino. The hospitality is first class and we felt relaxed and at home the first minute we arrived.
