About this property

Ireby 1.5 miles. A superb semi-detached Lakeland cottage, nestling in tranquil surroundings in the scattered hamlet of Sandale, with excellent views across the Ellen Valley, Solway Plain and the spectacular Lake District fells. This cottage in Sandale has charming features, including oak beams and an inglenook fireplace with woodburning stove, and a host of original arts and crafts on display throughout. Luxuriously appointed to provide cosy and extremely comfortable accommodation, this Sandale cottage is perfect for a peaceful and relaxing break for a couple, family or friends. The farmhouse-style kitchen has a dining area and doors opening out onto a charming terrace, stocked with seasonal herbs. The first floor sitting room of this Sandale cottage, with its cosy woodburning stove and sumptuous sofas, is a perfect retreat to snuggle down in at the end of the day whilst enjoying a perfect sunset over the Solway Plain towards the Scottish coast, while the beautifully-appointed bedrooms are perfect for a great night's sleep. Outside this Sandale cottage, guests can make full use of the two-acre gardens shared with the owner, and even meet the resident chickens! The town of Wigton is just 6 miles away, with the thriving Lake District market town of Keswick only 30 minutes' drive, with many excellent individual shops and cafes to enjoy, all nestling on the shores of Derwentwater. With mountain biking and ample walks available in the Whinlatter Forest Park, there is also the Osprey Observation Centre on the shores of Lake Bassenthwaite to enjoy, while the charming villages closer to hand have some lovely traditional inns serving excellent food. A charming Sandale cottage to be enjoyed all year.

With a charter granted in 1262, the traditional Cumbrian market town of Wigton still holds a market each Tuesday in the covered market hall. This lovely town is a popular centre for shopping, pubs and restaurants, as well as for other activities such as theatre, bowls, swimming, tennis and other sports. The Lord Melvyn Bragg novel, 'A Time to Dance', featured the town of Thurston, which was based on Wigton and the local area. The town is just 18 miles from Penrith and so makes an excellent base from which to explore the cathedral city of Carlisle, the North Lakes and the natural beauty of the West Cumbrian Coast. The epic Roman construction, Hadrian's Wall, is within 25 miles, whilst the Scottish borders and their famous town of Gretna Green are within easy driving distance.

It is a beautiful cottage in a beautiful setting. There is everything you would need for a stay away from home. Every room is comfortable and a joy to spend time in. Bed was so comfortable and as were the settees and chairs. So much so that I've ordered the same pillows to try and replicate the same sound sleep at.home ! We had a lovely night in the BBQ hut which was adorned beautifully to create a really magical feel. The views are captivating. We could see across to Dumfries and Galloway on a clear day and to sit and have coffee in the seating area outside close to the birds feeding was really relaxing. Finally, the owners are the most welcoming and considerate owners. The welcome pack was so nice on arrival and nothing was too much trouble. It was the nicest week we've had in The Lakes. Thank you so much
