Further afield, there are the attractions of the old market towns of Kendal, Barnard Castle, Kirkby Lonsdale, Sedbergh, numerous stately homes and gardens and the rugged beauty of the Lake District.

The furnishings and cleanliness were of a very high standard. The location of the house could not be bettered, with wonderful views and walks direct from the house.

Das Haus ist nicht sehr sauber. Tote Fliegen bei den Fenstern in den Schlafräumen im ersten Stock. Tote Käfer in einem Badezimmer. Brotkrumen in den Küchenschränken. Glasplatte am Esstisch schmutzig. Insgesamt alles etwas verstaubt. Boden schon länger nicht gewischt.Wir hatten etwas Wasser verschüttet und das Küchenpapier war danach schwarz. Vor allem aber grauenvolle Betten in jedem der drei Schlafzimmer! Die Matratzen sind komplett durchgelegen mit sichtbaren Vertiefungen. Das Bettgestell im weissen Zimmer quietscht bei jeder Bewegung, das im schwarzen Zimmer wackelt extrem. Die Dachfenster sind nett, aber leider kann man sie nicht wirklich abdunkeln, weswegen es bereits jetzt an einem sonnigen Tag im Haus sehr heiß wurde. (April!) Der Ausblick ist genial, aber das allein kann nicht genügen. In der ganzen Woche hat keiner von uns drei wirklich gut geschlafen!

We had the best time! Everything’s was provided for. The house was so so cosy and comfortable. Location was a perfect for a country break and so private and quiet. Joan is a great host and we couldn’t have asked for more
