About this property

This stunning semi-detached, stone-built cottage dates back to 1724 and is situated in Garsdale in the Yorkshire Dales National Park. Situated in the delightful Dales and within easy reach of the Lake District, the cottage is ideal for friends or families looking to explore these wonderful areas. The cottage has been lovingly furnished throughout by the owners to a high standard. The cottage is built on a hillside and offers entrances at both the ground floor level and first floor. The ground floor entrance leads into a stone-flagged hallway, perfect for leaving your muddy boots and coats after a day’s exploring. The two well-appointed bedrooms are downstairs beautifully furnished with hand-made oak furniture and offer a king-size double and a family room with a double and a single bed, with a cot available on request. There is even a handy utility room on this floor with a washing machine, full size freezer, iron, ironing board and airer. An open tread spiral staircase leads up to the first floor open plan living area. With its A-framed ceiling and feature stone wall, this offers a spacious, sociable area to relax together. The kitchen is well equipped with all you need for your holiday, and meals can be enjoyed together around the dining table as you discuss the day’s adventures. There is a warming woodburning stove to relax in front of on chillier days. Double doors open out to the lawned garden area which enjoys lovely views over the local fells and has regular visits from the local wildlife including red squirrels, woodpeckers and nuthatches. There are numerous walks and cycle routes to enjoy nearby and train enthusiasts will enjoy a visit to the historic Garsdale railway station just up the road, on which runs the famous Settle-Carlisle Railway with regular steam trains. Enjoy a drink at the local Moorcock Inn two miles from the cottage, it is open all day with walkers and dogs welcome. A short drive will take you to the ancient market towns of both Sedburgh, Hawes and Dent with their traditional pubs, shops and cafes to discover. This excellent cottage makes for a relaxing base whatever you choose to do.

Garsdale is a small hamlet of stone cottages and farmhouses, nestled together with a village hall, church and chapel, resting at the foot of the dale alongside the meandering river Clough between Sedbergh and Hawes. Sheep graze on either side of the dale in this tranquil valley which is perfectly situated for days out in the Yorkshire Dales or the Lake District. The nearest market towns are Sedbergh, 5 miles to the west, and Hawes, 9 miles to the east, both of which retain their ancient character and traditions and are well situated for shops, banks and traditional pubs.
