In the hamlet of Blakewell, with a few other private houses down a lane, a Grade II listed mill house. Comfortable and well converted, it is a magical place over three storeys for families or friends to enjoy. Head up the steps to the entrance and you will find yourself in a big sitting room on the middle floor, a lovely relaxing space with wood burning stove in the big fireplace. On sunny days, head through to the conservatory which looks over the pretty garden. The kitchen is a spacious room with plenty of equipment and a big table for family meals, as well as a breakfast bar. The bedrooms are spread over the ground floor and the second floor, with two en suite bedrooms on the lower level, together with a fun games room. On the top floor are three more bedrooms, one family room a splendid space to relax with chaise longue, TV, dressing room and en suite bathroom, whilst the other family room has a sofa, TV and charming little balcony. The gardens here are stunning, with the bonus being an indoor heated swimming pool (available Easter to end of October) with a changing room. Wander the paths around the gardens and orchard or sit back on the patio with its fire bowl and barbecue. Walk along the valley from here, or try your hand at trout fishing or bird watching in the local nature reserve. An organic farm shop will provide delicious ingredients, or head to a choice of restaurants in the town of Barnstaple, where there are entertainments too, like a cinema and shops. Take your bodyboards to the fabulous surf beaches at Woolacombe, Croyde and Saunton, or take a more peaceful hike over the hills of Exmoor. The Old Mill is an excellent base for family fun or touring the area.
Barnstaple enjoys a superb location at the mouth of the Taw Estuary, on the spectacular North Devon coastline between Westward Ho! and Croyde and is a short drive from the Exmoor National Park.
