About this property

Tucked away on one of the ancient narrow lanes of the pretty village of Appledore, Cockle Cottage is a former fisherman's home and has been tastefully updated to create a charming holiday home. This part of the village is a warren of traffic free streets which still retain echoes of a bygone era. Characterful pubs, interesting shops and art galleries can all be found here within walking distance of the cottage. Less than a hundred yards from the waterfront Cockle Cottage is part of Appledore's seafaring history and a trip to the local North Devon Maritime Museum offers an interesting insight into the area's past. Bideford with its many shops, cafes and restaurants is within 10 minutes' drive, and in the summer visitors wishing to venture further can take a ferry to the island of Lundy two hours off the coast. The sandy surfing beach of Westward Ho! is nearby and Skern Lodge offers a good range of outdoor activities for all ages. The family attractions of The Big Sheep and the Milky Way are all close by too. Cockle Cottage is furnished in an appealingly bright and cheerful style throughout whilst still retaining the character of the old property. A cosy lounge has a beamed ceiling and wood burner in a stone fireplace, and the three attractive bedrooms are reached by a low curved staircases.
