    Amy – 29 Dec 2020
"Stayed here over Christmas 2020. Very magical . Absolutly loved every second of relaxing in The Retreat. Rain washed the lane away that lead upto the cabin, but owners had been and filled it all back in without us even knowing, which was excellent and unexpected. Very accommodating owners also offered a later check out if we wished to stay and play in the snow with the children. They also contacted to make sure we had everything we needed also. Very thoughtful gesture. Could not have asked for a better place to spend christmas with my family. House and surrounds 5*"

"Fantastic quirky cottage in beautiful tranquil location. Lovely woodland walks on your doorstep and the mountain bike trail centre just down the road. We had a lovely holiday, the cottage was clean, warm and was equipped with with everything we needed for the perfect getaway. We would love to return again!!"

"We had a lovely stay at the retreat. It felt super clean. A fabulous quirky cottage. Definitely recommend!"
    Joanna – 17 Oct 2020
"Quirky little cottage and well equipped. Extremely clean and was a great base to explore the local area. We had a lovely week with 5 adults, a toddler and a dog. The rooms with single beds were quite small and had shutters opening to the main room. If you have little ones, I hadn’t noticed when booking was that it is two wet rooms and no bath. My 15 month old enjoyed a bath in a box though. Also stair gates were provided at the too of the huge wooden staircase and for the steps down to the ensuite bedroom, but not at the bottom of the wide steep Stairs which we had to keep the little one away from. We had a couple of bikes, and the steep gravelly track meant walking down to get to the main road."

"Definitely a get away from it all place. Driveway challenging in the wet unless you have a 4x4The Retreat is perfect for 6 people Beds very comfortable but sofas a little tired Log burner great on a cold eveningLocated next to beautiful walks in the hillsLoved the welcome gifts and would recommend"

"Lovely area , the cottage is ok for 3 people , it needs a little bit more attention specially at the back There were some issues and I told the owners There is only one recycling box, at the end of our stay was overflowThe area is beautiful and the view from the patio is stunning"

"We were a group of 6 mature ladies. Just what we wanted a rural retreat with a great walk from the doorstep. Excellent Sunday carvery at the local pub. Would definitely recommend."

"Lovely location would be happy to visit again"
    Kelly – 6 Nov 2019
"Really enjoyed our autumn week in the Forest of Dean- plenty to do and see. The Retreat is a lovely cosy property but maybe a little ambitious to cater for 8 in such a bijou space. Would have benefited from 8 sets of everything and some larger and more robust cooking equipment."
    Gabi – 16 Oct 2019
"Wonderful querky cottage, perfect for our family gathering - kids/adults and dogs thoroughly enjoyed our stay."
    Emma – 20 Sep 2019
"Lovely quirky accommodation but be aware the noise travels throughout if you have children with you. Perfectly situated for lots of adventures and nice and secluded in beautiful scenery"
    Brian – 25 Aug 2019
"The Retreat was quirky accommodation set jn a nice location. Unfortunately The Retreat felt a little unloved and lacked that homely welcoming feel. Unlike other guests we had no welcome pack just a loaf of bread on arrival. There was also no logs for the burner even though it stated there would be some to get us going. There was soap dispensers in the toilets but unfortunately no soap in them. The access road wasn't a big problem for us as we have a 4x4 evoque but our guests had a family estate car which really struggled with the incline and pot holes. This seems to be an ongoing theme from the reviews but seems to be ignored by the owners. Overall the property has so much potential but so little love and attention to detail really brings it down. We've stayed at many similar properties and the lack of love in this one really shone through. Theres just too much competition out there and sadly I'd be hard pushed to reccomend this one to others. Overall I'd say 4 out of 10."

"Thank you for a great stay at the retreat. We loved the quirkinesses of your house and how it felt a bit different to your average rental cottage. Such a beautiful setting in the trees. Had everything we needed! Great walks directly from the house. Thank you! We did struggle getting one of our cars up the gravel drive (possibly more a reflection of our driving though!). Thank you! We’ll be back! Emma"

"We had a lovely week stay at the retreat and are looking to book again next year ."
    Cath
"Amazing place, in the middle of no where really beautiful setting, back to nature with the cow's and sheep. The owl also the crow!!!. Well equipped plenty of glasses and crockery, wood burner makes it cosy in the evenings. Patio area great maybe some seat cushions would be good. 1 thing that could make the outside perfect would be a hot tub. Beds are really comfy. Would 100% recommend this property."

"If you want peaceful this is the place, up a gravel path and you disappear into the country with nothing but sheep, cows, rabbits and squirrels for company but also nicely located to reach places by car..We visited with our dog and he loved the freedom, it has a nice sitting out area with plenty of chairs and a bbq..The retreat is very quirky, and has all you need, smart tv and WiFi, the underfloor heating was lovely and kept the cottage at a lovely temperature, we arrived to a nice txt welcome and was provided with milk, fresh bread, and fresh mint.thank you for our stay."

"Absolutely loved staying at the Retreat. We were a party of 7 adults plus toddler and border collie. We had plenty of space but it was still cosy, especially with the fire on!"
    Adrian
"Great locn, fantastic building very quirky. Had a fantastic stay and enjoyed or stay very much."
    Gill
"Overall we enjoyed our stay at The Retreat! It was cosy for 7 adults, 1 child and 1 dog but we didn't feel like we were tripping over each other. Arriving to fresh bread, milk and flowers was thoughtful! The underfloor heating and log burner was a lovely touch too given how cold it has turned in the last week. Can't comment on the local amenities as we didn't use any but there is a pub about a 10 min walk from the house though. As we are city folks, we loved how quiet the location was, in the middle of nowhere surrounded by nature! Main supermarkets are in Gloucester about 20 mins away although it may be worth going to the house first to see what amenities are there. In addition to the bread and milk, there's cooking oil, salt & pepper, washing up liquid, dishwasher tablets, washing machine tablets, tea, coffee and sugar. I think it's worth adding to the description that the house is up a bit of a steep, gravel drive way and you may think that you've taken the wrong turn but just persevere and follow the track, the house is definitely there! Glad we arrived in daylight! The only thing we think could have made the stay better would be to have a hot tub in the back garden, there's definitely the space for it! Had a lovely stay!"

"Booked for my 60th birthday so we needed the space for family & friends over the course of the week. Was more comfortable when there was only 5 of us."
    Debbie
