Single holiday let sleeping up to 20 guests in total
Portland House, an elegant 18th Century property, is uniquely positioned on the cusp of three counties, in an area of outstanding natural beauty in the picturesque Wye Valley, just 5 minutes walk from the best river in the UK, the wonderful River Wye and all that it offers to canoeists, fishing and wildlife enthusiasts; and 10 minutes drive away from the iconic Symonds Yat Rock viewpoint and nesting place for peregrine falcons.
Whitchurch is an ideal base to explore rural Herefordshire, the magical Forest of Dean, and magnificent Monmouthshire and the Black Mountains. Very close to the market towns of Monmouth and Ross on Wye. Less than 16 miles away is Hereford City and its cathedral with the famous Mappa Mundi and Magna Carta, and the evocative Cistercian Abbey of Tintern near Chepstow.
The House has plethora of information on what to do and where to go. Just outside the back door is one of many public footpaths to enjoy a wonderful walk from our house to Goodrich Castle. Golfers are spoilt for choice. We are surrounded by quality golf courses, e.g. 10 mins from the Rolls of Monmouth golf course (previous home of Charles Rolls of Rolls Royce fame), and just 25 mins drive to The Celtic Manor, where the 2010 Ryder Cup was held. Outoor pursuits (fun and challenging) can be pre-booked with our associates.
With its range of inclusive accommodation for 20 people Portland House is considered to be one of the best venues for family and group events and people of all ages and types. To accommodate the sporty and 'the active in all weathers' there's The Boot Room with laundry and drying facilities. Portland House can also store bikes. Relax in the very comfortable lounge, read or maybe enjoy a game of chess, and especially cosy in the winter with a log fire. The spacious and pretty dining room, with its beautiful Victorian fireplace and high ceiling, is perfect to enjoy your special meals. External catering can be hired in and you may arrange tables to suite your party. Just ask us how. All bedrooms and suites have been individually styled and all with ensuite facilities. Day Room on the ground floor can be adapted easily into a bedroom. This also has an attached bathroom.
Lovely private garden with terrace and pergola, BBQ, and with hot tub can be made available.
#Coronavirus 2020 – Portland House
We thought it important to provide visitors to our advertisement with some initial information on how we are currently addressing this serious situation
Firstly, after seeking all the appropriate advice available, we have undertaken a NEW risk assessment of the key issues relating to a large group of people arriving, staying and departing from Portland House with Coronavirus still yet to peak.
Anyone who makes an enquiry for dates that are still available in 2020 on our calendar can receive details about our hygiene plan. We are proud that our hygiene rating is high anyway, but our Housekeeper and her team have amended and upgraded their processes on ‘deep clean’ to take into account the survival rate of this Virus on various surfaces, and the length of time between group departures and arrivals.
We have considered what would be major concerns and worries of guests and put measures in place for those also. That said, each guest has a personal responsibility also, and applying the highest personal hygiene behaviour to their stay is important and expected.
For the guests who have already booked we will keep them up to date. We also advise that if they haven’t taken advantage of buying insurance from our booking system, it would be sensible now to so do. The same applies to people considering booking with us.
