S85070 was originally a yeoman’s or statesman’s house (farmhouse) and following that it became an inn. In 1769 the poet Thomas Gray went on a tour of the lakes and S85070 is mentioned in his ’Journal’ which was published in 1775 after his death in 1771. "Very homely and fabulous location."
Helen – 27 Aug 2018
"We enjoyed a great family holiday with our 3 sons and their partners. The cottage was characterful and charming whilst being practical and comfortable. Great location. Thank you!"
Jane – 29 Jul 2018
"Lovely cottage, perfect location"
Mike – 15 Jul 2018
"Didn’t use the car for the first four days, walking out fro the cottage straight on to the fells, all the way to Ska Fell, a great 22Km round trek. Excellent cottage, with wonderfully hidden nooks and corners full of surprises. Very comfortable beds and furniture, an well appointed with a full suite of appliances etc. to ensure continued support for the holiday. Our advice to anyone new to Rossthwaite would be to arrange a delivery from Tesco with all the groceries etc you will need for the week, with perhaps a mid-week top-up from Keswick; the will allow you the maximum time to enjoy this Jewel in the Lakeland area."
James – 7 Jul 2018
"The absence of a working TV was no problem to me but it was to others in the party. For the price we expected an adequate supply of toilet rolls.Otherwise it was OK and we may try to book again later this year."
Olivier – 7 Jul 2018
"Good place to stay with lovely early 20th century atmosphere"
Kate – 24 May 2018
"A lovely old world cottage in the perfect location,we had a couple of issues however. We couldn't get enough water for a hot bath and had to unblock the drain as it was running into the house. There were also quite a few insects inside.Still overall the property was lovely, but would benefit from a bit of tlc and a thorough clean to bring it up to the advertised standard."
Mark – 15 May 2018
"We enjoyed this lovely old cottage. It’s very atmospheric and quirky. The place was very well equipped with everything we needed and we appreciated the two fridges. The location is lovely with plenty of walks from the front door. We would definitely stay again. The only slight downside was that some people complained of the cold the first night. The general consensus fwiw was that the food at the pub in Stonethwaite (short walk) was better than the local in Rosthwaite but it was great to have both easily accessible"
