About this property

An attractive semi-detached cottage, formerly the Stanton Bridge Post Office, in the pretty Wasdale Valley in the Lake District National Park. With a cosy sitting room with flagged stone floor and woodburning stove, this Wasdale cottage is the perfect romantic retreat. Enjoy the peaceful surroundings in the shared front garden, set alongside the River Irt, with the mountains providing a dramatic backdrop. Excellent bar food is served in the Bridge Inn just a few minutes' walk from this Wasdale cottage, and the village tea room serves delicious cakes - especially good after a long day's walk. With an impressive range of mountains available, including Scafell Pike (England's highest) even the most experienced walker will be spoilt for choice at this Wasdale cottage. The breathtaking views can also be enjoyed from the open-air carriages on board the Ravenglass & Eskdale Railway. A little further away is Muncaster Castle, which has some beautiful gardens perched up above the valley, offering striking views of the Cumbrian coast. Horse riding is available nearby, and makes a wonderful way to see the stunning countryside this area has to offer. This Wasdale cottage has been tastefully furnished to ensure guests have a relaxing stay, at any time of the year. Note: This cottage is a few minutes' walk from Ref. 16398, together they sleep 12.

The picturesque hamlet of Santon Bridge sits in an area of Cumbria that is relatively undiscovered by tourists and has remained unspoilt as a result. The horizon surrounding Stanton consists of stunning views of various mountains, including Great Gable, Hard Knott, Muncaster Fell, Harter Fell and England's highest peak, Scafell. The village itself is very small and tranquil, consisting of a few farm buildings, a number of cottages and a local pub, which serves excellent food to locals and visitors alike. In addition to the walks and cycle-trails in the area, there are many local attractions to enjoy, such as the World Owl Centre, Muncaster Castle and Wastwater, the deepest lake in the UK. To take in the scenery, but without the effort, there is a miniature railway that leads from Ravenglass to Eskdale; a truly stunning journey in which to soak up the splendour of the region.
