About this property

A 200-year old detached canalside cottage on the outskirts of Burton-in-Kendal, 7 miles from Kirkby Lonsdale, 12 miles from Kendal, in a secluded, rural and peaceful setting with wonderful views. Located at historic Burton Wharf almost midway along a 5-mile closed and secluded section of the Lancaster to Kendal Canal, this comfortable and thoughtfully modernised cottage is full of charm and character. The cottage has a delightful beamed sitting room, a woodburning stove and outstanding views of the surrounding countryside to the Lakeland Fells beyond. Diverse wildlife can be seen around the canal, and swans and other wildfowl nest beside the wharf, while curlews can often be heard. The canal towpath on the opposite bank is popular for walking, cycling and exercising dogs. There is a good dog-friendly pub/restaurant in Burton village a short walk from the property, or guests can enjoy an evening meal on the canalside patio, from which lovely sunsets can frequently be seen. Lancaster, Morecambe Bay, Silverdale and Arnside are within easy reach, as are Settle, Clapham and Ingleton, Lancaster is 9 miles and Blackpool is just 44 miles away. A superbly-located property, perfectly placed for visiting the Lake District, Yorkshire Dales and the Lune Valley.

The small traditional Cumbrian village of Burton is set in beautiful countryside and is ideally placed for exploring the Lake District, the Yorkshire Dales and Bowland Forest. With a post office and general store, a butcher and a pub that serves good food, the village has all the essentials for visitors. For more specific amenities, Kirkby Lonsdale is just seven miles away whilst Kendal is only 12 miles and is often referred to as the gateway to the Lake District. The historic city of Lancaster and the seaside resorts of Morecombe and Blackpool are within easy driving distance, whilst the acclaimed rspb wildfowl reserve of Leighton Moss is only four miles away. Morecombe Bay also offers great opportunities for wildlife spotting and is one of the reasons that the area is famous for birdwatching. Other locations with an hour's drive include the villages of Silverdale and Arnside, which overlook the beautiful Kent Estuary as well as the villages of Ingleton, Settle and Clapham.
