We had a really good time but there are a few things with the lodge itself which could be improved. Firstly we were told that there was a stair gate at the top of the stairs. This was incorrect and there was only one at the bottom. This would have been fine but the one at the bottom of the stairs could not be secured so were absolutely no good when you want to keep children off the stairs. We had to secure the gate with dressing gown ropes. Secondly, there are no light switches upstairs and the lamps are very dim. This means you have to turn all the lights off and then go up the spiral staircase in the dark. Lastly, it took about 24 hours for the lodge to get warm. This is not ideal in the winter. Luckily there is a gas fire which you could use in the living area but when we went to bed on the first night it was cold. The lodge was nice and the kitchen was probably the best I have had in one of these lodges. We would definitely come back and now that we are aware of the issues above we could come prepared!

The lakes cabin (number 5) is beautiful - really special and atmospheric. It’s ideal for a group of friends or families with Older children. The kitchen is gorgeous and so well equipped. The hot tub & sauna were awesome and lovely and warm even on a chilly week In January and we used them both a lot. We didn’t explore further than our cabin so can’t say about the golf or barn works facilities. The negatives were really minor for us but they are: The two bedrooms upstairs are not properly insulated from sound. ones of the doors is a curtain & the others a glass door but there’s a triangle of open space at the top so in both rooms you hear all the noise downstairs clearly. The sofas are pretty firm and not ideal for lounging on - they could do with some cushions but we used ones from the beds and the beanbags. I think some blankets in a basket would also be a nice touch just to make the most of the cozy lounge.

Terrible sewerage smell on the first night, dirty bed sheets, mouldy shower, uncomfortable cheap furniture. The whole place didn’t seem very clean.
