There is a wide variety of restaurants serving everything from gourmet cuisine to classic pub fare. Throughout the summer, Ulverston has a variety of festivals, from a flag-raising and walking festival to an art and music festival, and in late November, the town hosts the world-famous Dickensian Christmas celebration. It is the site of the largest foam pie fight in the world and the birthplace of comedy legend Stan Laurel. Fantastic hikes in scenic scenery with views of Morecambe Bay and the southern Lake District can be found all around the city. One of the best ways to spend an afternoon is by strolling along the canal, which boasts the world's deepest, widest, and shortest dimensions, and ending at a tavern with stunning views of the bay.
