About this property

This is a semi-detached stone-built cottage in the centre of the picturesque village of Allendale in south west Northumberland. This luxurious cottage provides the ideal base for a family or couples looking to explore this delightful area. Retaining much of its original character, the cottage is comfortably furnished and has exposed beams in the sitting room with a wonderful open fire to sit by and relax. There is a well-equipped kitchen with a good-sized dining area, making it a great social space to enjoy some good home-cooked meals after a day out and about exploring the area. There is also a games room where the kids or even big kids can enjoy a game of table tennis. Upstairs there are two bedrooms, both decorated to a high standard, one with an en-suite shower room and a family bathroom also. To the outside is an enclosed patio garden with furniture; a good place for some alfresco dining or even relaxing with something chilled. A few minutes’ walk takes you to the facilities of the village of Allendale with a number of shops, pubs and restaurants to enjoy. There is also a local hairdressers and beauty salon offering a range of relaxing treatments. The surrounding area is perfect for walking, there are woodland walks on the doorstep of the property, cycling and bird watching. Further afield, discover the history of this former lead-mining area at Allenheads Heritage Centre or visit the bustling town of Hexham with its 7th century abbey and colourful weekly market. The surrounding area is waiting to be explored with the High and Low Force Waterfalls, Killhope mines, Durham and Hadrian’s Wall all within easy reach. If you are feeling more adventurous then Slaley Hall outdoor activities centre is a mere 18miles away. They have a range of activities from quad biking to archery to clay pigeon shooting. Once finished why not relax in Slaley Hall’s spa and pool area. If heights are more your thing, then why not try Go Ape at Matfen Hall again a mere 23 miles away. Closer to Allendale there is the Sinderhope Pony Trekking Centre and for the more sporty visitors why not have a round of golf at Allendale Golf Club. A little further afield can take you to the Heritage Coastline or the Northern Lake District for a good day out. Grove Cottage is a delightful cottage to be enjoyed at any time of the year, with plenty of things to see and do in this great area of Northumberland.

Allendale was once the centre of a busy lead mining area, and many relics of the mining era remain around the area. Allendale is ideally placed for access to Carlisle to the west, Hexham to the east or the Roman Wall just to the north. There are lots of walks and unspoilt villages in the surrounding North Pennines Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, which is an ideal location for exploring the surrounding countryside or travelling further north to the glorious Heritage Coastline.

With local shops, cafes and walking from the front door you can park the car up for the duration of your stay .One minor niggle is there is no off road parking as it's either outside the church or in the main square,we had 2 vehicles with us and always managed to get a space but the listing is incorrect but it does not detract from being an excellent choice. Please look at the owners web site for more information on walks ,places to visit and local food outlets as this will help you on deciding to book this home from home

The cottage was spotlessly clean and really well presented. The area it very quite with some lovely walks right from the door and an excellent base to explore hadrians wall and Northumberland. We loved the open fire after long autumn walks and had fun learning to use the aga which was much more simple than we thought it would be.

Brilliant host and such high standards of cleanliness with extra assistance with dog walks and local areas. Would highly recommend.
