"Very disappointed on a number of levels. Misrepresentation in that there was no washer/dryer, only a washing machine, with not even an outside line. The dishwasher did not work, so had to wash all the crockery before using as covered in bits. No apology from owner or any offer to replace or fix. Fridge, microwave and oven were all dirty. The kitchen bin had no lid so food waste was uncovered plus there was only one spare bin bag and the outside bin was already overflowing when we arrived and was accessed via a cement mixer! No facilities for recyling. Eating at the kitchen table was tricky, with it being squashed between the back door, fridge and sink. There was a hole in the bathroom ceiling and a tear in the floor covering. On the plus side, towels and bedding were clean. We found it very hard to believe this was classed as 4 star as we would only have given it 2."

"Some issues mentioned in other reviews had not been rectified the main one being the leaking bathroom ceiling when it rains. I work in property an facilities management an there were other issues that were a bit disappointing for the cost of the property for the week. That said it was beautifully clean, well located within Alnwick an nice size for a family holiday."

"We stayed here and really enjoyed the local amenities and environment. Fantastic location to explore different parts of Northumbria, would consider staying here again."

"S14417 is a substantial mid terrace house... it had all we needed, but there were some concerns1 The bathroom ceiling has what is obviously an old defect so that when we had a heavy shower water poured in..... we reported this and were given towels to put on the floor and were told it would be repaired.... during a wet week this would be very difficult to deal with!!2 The tap in the bath didn't work3. The patio is not decked and the steps to it are very old and steep it also very overgrown4. Some of the electric sockets didn't workWe enjoyed our holiday in the area but would not book this house again."

"Lovely week long break at S14417. Quirky house with nice patio and some slopey floors, adding to the charm. All facilities including dishwasher, wi-fi and easy to use heating and hot water. I had no problem parking outside house each day and easy to walk to all amenities in Alnwick.Bedrooms comfy and decoration good, felt like home from home."
Philippa – 23 Feb 2018
"S14417 is ideally situated for exploring Alnwick and the widwr Northumberland region. S14417 is well equipped and situated a few minutes walk from the town centre and the infamous Barter books which we visited on a daily basis during our stay. We have a young family so often were up and out early doors to get fresh bread from the bakery and our daily supplies from the butchers. Thank you for a wonderful stay and S14417 was a fabulous home from home. Previous reviews had mentioned about the boiler we were a bit nervous about the place being cold but the boiler was great and kept us nice and warm. We wouldn't hesitate to recommend S14417."

"We loved the location of the house, it was five minutes walk from the town centre, the living room accommodated us all and it was cosy. However, on arrival, it was evident that no one had been in the house for days or weeks, it was freezing cold and the water was turned off. We called the emergency numbers and could not contact the owner but the third number on the list was answered. After we had been there for around 45 minutes someone came and turned the water and heating on, the house warmed up after around 24 hours. The owner contacted us the next day and apologised but arriving at 11.15 at night to a freezing cold house which was not ready was not good. The house sleeps five people but the dining table in the kitchen only really sits four comfortably. The owner kindly allowed us extra time on the day we left."

"Ideally situated, only one issue, on arrival the electric RCB had tripped, consequently there was no heating and the house was stone cold, not a welcoming feeling.Apart from that, we would stay again"
Ted and Norma – 22 Sep 2017
"Excellent base for our type of holiday activities:-lots of good walks - many starting in Alnwick;many castles and museums within easy reach;lots of good eating places within walking distance. Also, around the corner is the John Bull; probably the best beer house in the county, if not the country.Make time to visit Barter Books - 1/4 million[?] second hand books"

"S14417 has been carefully renovated to provide maximum comfort for renters. It is in an excellent position for touring around the beautiful Northumberland coast and countryside. We would thoroughly recommend S14417."

"Do not visit this property in autumn or winter, it's freezing."
Leigh
"The house is comfortable and well-supplied and has a lot of character. It is only two roads away from the town centre, a supermarket and the bus station but is fairly quiet. As well as days of activity, we had relaxing days in and enjoyed being there."
Nigel
"A comfortable house slightly spoiled by a lack of TLC. A socket in the hall tripped the main electrical switch, a temperamental shower, broken bath plug, broken tap ends slightly marred our experience. The bathroom and kitchen could have been a lot cleaner. It wouldn't take a lot of effort to make this a really top-notch holiday house. Alnwick itself feels rather run down, although Alnwick Castle and Gardens are superb. It is an ideal location for exploring the many attractions of the north-east and border country."

"A few issues with the house did not affect our holiday in any way just think a bit of repairs here and there would make a difference. more info about rubbish the bin was pretty much full upon our arrival. Good location for the town and exploring the area would recommend based on that."

"S14417 is in a great location for exploring the local area and the county of Northumberland. From it, we explored Edinburgh on the train during the Fringe and Newcastle in the car as well as all of the local beaches and castles. A drive to Holy Island is worth it. S14417 itself is disappointing: it could be so much better. Three good sized bedrooms are furnished with clean and comfortable beds although the two smaller rooms lack wardrobes. The lounge is comfortable but the sofa could do with a clean. Free wifi is reliable. A private patio (with seven steep steps and not five as listed) is a sun trap but lacks care and attention. Planting flowering shrubs in the tubs would transform the area as would sweeping up the piles of dead leaves and a good weeding. A parasol? A washing line? The kitchen needs attention: dirty fridge, a table too large to sit around in the space provided, rickety cabinet cupboards, plinths missing. The room just lacked a finishing touch. We read a previous review that stated the kitchen needed a deep clean: we agree. Such a shame because the house could have been so much better."
Julia
"A great location, 2 mins walk from the town centre, but with onroad parking no problem. It was a lovely cottage, a large sitting room, quirky outside space, kitchen was large, but this left little space for the table and so space to sit around a table to eat was very tight (but nothing much they can do until a new kitchen is fitted). They need to take notice of everyones comment in the guest book and reviews that a recycling box is needed. On holiday you use so many more bottles and jars. A few bizarre quirks, like a waist height mirror in one bedroom, but a comfy cottage. Note - the keys are at the premises NOT at the guest house as the cottage.com info states"
Mairi
"Great location. Loved Alnwick and the walk to the town centre very short.Bedrooms were comfortable enough but there is a smell of damp in the house (in the kitchen especially). The cultery tray needed cleaned out on arrival ( crumbs and hair amoungst the cultery and the dishwasher was very unclean around the door. The owners need to leave information regarding recycling and putting out the bins."
Margot
"The property is very well located near Alnwick town centre. The property, especially the kitchen, would benefit from a deep clean. The bedrooms were nice and the beds comfortable. There was no hand soap in the bathroom and kitchen nor a courtesy tray which is usual these days."
Karen
"Cozy cottage handy for town an the coast"
Carole
"Good house in a nice location. Very convenient for the town and other places of interest. Not many instructions with respect to the property or services."
Carole
"Lovely cottage, well equipped, comfortable. Location excellent for town centre not far to walk to the castle. We really enjoyed our break"
Mary
"Would have scored top if highchair was better and cot had better matress. Also think most visitors would prefer to have two keys. Otherwise location and cottage was excellent."
Linda
"Comfortable beds; pleasant decor; well equipped; extremely convenient location. Kitchen rather cramped for five people."
JOHANNE
"Well located cottage close to local amenities. Cottage was well presented and clean (apart from the oven where the grill tray had a thick layer of fat and bacon bits on- as I didn't want to clean it we did not use the oven!!) Enjoyed our stay at the cottage and would recommend it to others."
Becky
"We were greeted at the front door by the smell from the kitchen bin which had not been emptied properly. This was not a good start and overall we felt it was not in a fit condition to be let for such a price. Overall, the place was clean and had plenty of facilities but one major problem with the main (kingsize) bed was that the mattress cover and sheet were not big enough and therefore came adrift in the night. Every morning I awoke to find myself lying on the mattress itself! The light bulb in one of my son's bedside lights was missing and in trying to move the other lamp over the bed he knocked the bedstead and a shower of dust landed on his pillow. The shower over the bath was so low my husband (6 foot 2) could not fit under it. The plug mechanism for the bath was broken and so unusable. The light fitting over the kettle area in the kitchen was broken. The table in the kitchen was so big you couldn't sit 4 people around it and only by turning it 90 degrees could we do so, but then had trouble getting out of the back door. Access to the bins outside was very difficult and when we got there they were full. There was no indication given of when the bins would be collected from the roadside. There was no information on recycling. I could go on but you can see that a lot of relatively little things added up to a frustrating week in what could have been a lovely cottage. When I booked S14417 was awaiting rating - that should have been a warning to us, I suppose. What a shame as the location is very good - everywhere within Alnwick is easily walkable and it was a surprisingly quiet location given its town setting."
Chris
"Good location we'll equipped with great heating. A little cramped though especially around the table. Also strange arrangement re bins and recycling"

"Super quaint and comfortable cottage which made us feel home from home. Well equipped and comfortable and in a great location with easy access to many great local attractions. It would have been good to have some information with regard to recyling and rubbish but apart from that very happy"
