About this property

Hexham 6 miles; Blanchland 4 miles. An immaculate stone-built cottage situated in the rural hamlet of Slaley and close to the conservation village of Blanchland. The property is only a short drive from many of Northumbria's attractions including Hadrian's Wall, the popular market town of Hexham and the Northumberland National Park. The cottage adjoins the owners' 150-year old farmhouse and offers accommodation of a particularly high standard. From the doorstep there are forest tracks and country lanes for walkers and mountain bikers. Alternatively, just relax and soak in the tranquillity of the area, in the private lawned garden!

Hexham is a lively little market town packed with fascinating antique shops. There are many attractions and amenities for visitors, and here you will find the attractive old Hexham Abbey which dates back to the 7th Century and its amazing Saxon crypt; the colourful stalls of The Shambles in the Market Place on Tuesdays, and the 14th Century Moot Hall, now an art gallery. Hexham is very popular with tourists visiting Hadrian's Wall, located nearby. There are many lovely open spaces, including the Sele, a public park next to the Abbey, and the riverside country park of Tyne Green. Horse racing enthusiasts will enjoy a day out at Hexham Race Course which is located south of Hexham.

It had everything we needed for the stay which was enhanced by the living room being decorated for our Christmas stay with a tree and decorations. A lovely touch. The cottage is lovely and remote a little over a mile from the small village with it's excellent community run shop. The cottage and area is perfect for a escape to the country getaway. Lovely quick to warm up central heating which was essential in mid-winter given the cottage sits at around 200m above the Tyne Valley. And there was a log burner too. The owner brought a basket of logs each day without us asking for this. All in all we couldn't fault it not even as we had picked a week to stay of volatile weather with heavy rain and gales blowing each day, the wind adding to that get away feeling, but we were cosy in the cottage. A lovely experience which we'd like to repeat in springtime to enjoy the many forest walks and abundant wildlife here.

Very comfortable and a very quiet area. My only comments would be that the windows are very stiff to shut and that the listing gives the impression the alpacas/sheep are visible from the cottage, this wasn’t our experience but maybe they move fields. Owners next door but we only saw them once so very private. Very helpful and friendly people though. Lovely village shop and nice food in village pub 1.5miles away. Loads of wildlife, we saw bats, hares and heard owls.
