"Three generations of our family [aged 1-64] went to Byrness for New Year and had a fantastic time. It has a lovely, slightly faded elegence. The kitchen is the best I have ever had in self-catering - a huge gas & electric range, 2 sinks, 2 fridges and a full sized freezer, lots of cupboard place and, wonder of wonders, really sharp knives. Of course the kitchen needs to be good as you will do a lot of cooking ..........there is nowhere close enough to walk to for a meal! There's a wonderful kitchen table that seats eight easily and in the dining room a huge table that fits 12-14 [and there's enough cutlery and crockery for that number. The sitting room is large with three big old sofas and a huge TV/DVD/Freenet. There are stereos in both rooms. Upstairs are 5 bedrooms and three bathrooms. Because of water pressure issues there is a knack to how to use the showers and you can't use all three at the same time [or if the washing machine is running]. Also is you are having a shower it takes ages for the cisterns to refill for a flush. The same is true for the heating system as it seemed at first that the house was always too hot. However, with the help of Kate the owner we got it sorted. The other thing was that, because of the thickness of the walls the wi-fi was very unreliable. These are all problems of old buildings, heating systems and water pressure - there isn't anything actually wrong with any of the things [but it is wise to know about it in advance]There's lots of parking, a nice garden with beautiful views across Redesdale, easy access to great scenery and you are within 100 metres of the Pennine Way. Also you can walk up the hillside behind the house into lovely woodland. The owners live in the adjoining property, They are friendly and helpful but never intrusive. This property isn't for everyone. If you want up to the minute luxury with jacuzzi, steam room, streamed Netflix this isn't for you. However if you want a place with bags of space a character and a great kitchen this is the place for you"

"Fantastic! A lovely reunion of 10 friends was supported by this cosy home, that used to be a hotel. All of the rooms were clean and well decorated and the dining room was great to have a meal together and play party games. With our puppy able to join in the fun too (and towels left out for him to dry off when he came in) we were delighted with it.Tesco delivered all the food needed which is a great idea as not many large supermarkets nearby and saved us the effort of bringing it all with us!Thanks Kate and Peter and we look forward to seeing you again.. x"

"An excellent family stay at the Byrness. This place has everything you could ask for - well equipped kitchen, plenty of bathrooms and seating options. It is an ideal location for exploring a beautiful part of the country. I note that some of the bedrooms have been upgraded and re-decorated since some of the photos on the website - note that the double bunk-beds have been removed."
