About this property

Smithycroft is a beautiful thatched and stone detached cottage dating back to the 17th century. Fully restored with modern amenities, the cottage still has many of its charming original features including inglenook fireplaces.

Situated in the village of Combe St Nicholas and nestling on the edge of the Blackdown Hills, Smithycroft puts you right at the heart of some of the South West’s most beautiful walking country. This Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty boasts wonderful, rolling scenery, with walks galore across the Somerset and Devon border.

The traditional thatched cottage feels as cosy as it looks, with an inglenook fire place in the sitting room and a breakfast room with french doors leading out onto the enclosed garden. The owners have refurbished the property to include little touches of luxury, like a roll-top bath in the en-suite from the master bedroom, so you enjoy a traditional cottage with all mod cons too.

Whether you’re coming away for a family holiday or a romantic break, Smithycroft is the ideal base for exploring a fascinating part of the world. The Jurassic Coast and Lyme Regis are thirty minutes’ drive away, and the splendour of Cheddar Gorge is only a short distance too. When you’ve had your fill of walking and exploring, it’s time to come back to your very own country idyll and enjoy all the delights of a tranquil and beautiful hideaway.

Additional Information:

One well-behaved dog welcome (small additional charge).

Children and infants welcome, highchair and stair gate available on request.

Guests with small children should note there are some small steps in the garden and should be supervised.

There are low beams in some areas of the cottage, and a disused well in the garden.

The steps from the parking area are uneven so it is advisable to take any luggage through the front entrance.

Due to the thatched roof, fireworks and barbecues are not permitted at this property.

The AGA is for decorative purposes only.

There was absolutely nothing to be negative about. We found the property online after much searching for a cottage that could provide our bedroom /bathroom/living requirements within certain travel distance and be available from a Thursday for a 4 night stay. So the flexibility in arrival day was a massive bonus. The layout, design and high quality furnishings/linens etc. as provided by the owner were much appreciated by all our little group. The pre-stay communications were excellent and the unpack and flop readiness i.e. beds made, fire stacked, heating on, milk in fridge, fantastically clean throughout, cosy lights lit and a twinkling Christmas tree to boot made it even better than anticipated.
