Pipewell Cottage sleeping up to 6 guests

Period weather boarded cottage, with swimming pool, home to writers Thackeray and Conrad, Rye has 13th century church.
A period weather boarded cottage offering far reaching views across the marshes to the Citadel at Rye and shared use of the owners above ground swimming pool, available until September 2018 only. Situated snug in its hilltop setting amongst tile-hung cottages and award winning tea shops. Seven centuries ago, the new town was founded by Edward I to take the place of an older town of the same name which had been lost to the sea in a series of storms and now lies beneath the waters of Rye Bay. It became a bustling cinque port town and the centre of the wine trade with France with a smuggling history and hidden wine cellars beneath the broad streets, and it is the smallest town in the country to have its own mayor. Visit the museum and the 13th century church. Home to the writers Thackeray and Conrad, the actress Ellen Terry, and Millais was inspired to paint his famous portrait ’The Blind Girl’ with Winchelsea in the background. Winchelsea is situated where the High Weald Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty meets Romney Marsh. There is an unspoilt shingle beach within a mile – take your shrimping net and binoculars to observe the many birds that frequent the area at low tide or explore the sands and rolling dunes at Camber, 7 miles. Rye, Hastings and Battle are all a short drive away. Shop, pub and restaurant 500 yards.
Ground floor: Living room with double sofa bed/dining room/kitchen. Bathroom with shower over bath and toilet. Open tread stairs (open to one side) to first floor: 1 double bedroom. Steep, narrow stairs to second floor: 1 twin bedroom.
Gas central heating, gas and electricity included (£25per week November-March, £12per short break). Bed linen and towels included. Travel cot. High chair. DVD and small library. CD. Gas hob. Electric oven. Washing machine and tumble dryer (in external utility room). Small enclosed tiered garden with terrace and furniture. Barbecue. On road parking. No smoking.

    Sandra – 18 Oct 2018
"We really liked the cottage but my partner kept banging his head as there is quite a lot of restricted headroom which wasn't mentioned in the descriptionTherefore we wouldn't stay there again but it was very clean, comfortable and cute"
    Fran – 4 Oct 2018
"Some small touches would make the property more convenient and comfortable. Small kitchen equipment is damaged, broken, missing-no bread knife. The main sofa is no longer comfortable, springs worn and saggy. Parking is there but awkward and no path laid from road to property means you have dirty or wet feet as you enter over the grass."
    Ben – 29 Sep 2018
"Very good value for money and lovely part of the country. Had a lovely weekend"
    Sandra – 27 Sep 2018
"The cottage has everything you could possibly need for a self catering property, even board games and a selection of dvds. We were disappointed that the pool was not in use as it should have been available until September, we left on 1st, however the weather was not really suitable for using an outdoor pool. The other minor irritation was the shower it was either scalding hot or freezing. the beach was a lot further than we had anticipated so we elected to drive, good location for visiting Rye, Hastings and Camber Sands and the New Inn serves really good food and has a nice walled garden.we enjoyed our stay but would not return with our grandchildren as it is a very old property with steep stairs and has very little insulation which means you can hear everything which is not great with young children also the bathroom is downstairs. The girls loved there stay but were disappointed about the pool. It would be ideal for me and my husband on our own."
    Kate – 20 Aug 2018
"We had a really lovely break in S14001, very clean, comfortable (especially the beds!). In a lovely area of the country, lots to do. Would definitely think about coming again."
    Amanda – 19 May 2018
"Quirky cottage in fab location with stunning views to Rye. Cottage itself suffers from a down stairs bathroom off the kitchen , and bathroom door right by cooker!Kitchen basics all there but very squashed if more than 3 people stayed.Bathroom clean but dated , shower poor, and no where to dry towels unless heating on. Lounge suite tired and a little uncomfortable.Lovely gas fire though. Bedrooms small but pleasant, spotlessly clean , and very comfortable beds. Wooden floors and stairs mean any walking about was heard throughout, ditto for conversations. If all of the above negatives are okie, for a family with young children rather than 2 couples or more, than cottage fine, Winchelsea quaint."
    Confirmed guest – 11 Feb 2018
"The cottage was lovely but the heating was barely adequate for a holiday in a very cold February. Excellent location and very well equipped although a sharp knife would have been good!"
    Jenny – 31 Jan 2018
"A beautiful place to stay, we enjoyed our time thoroughly."
    Marie – 5 Jan 2018
"A wonderful stay for Christmas with all the family. Thanks a lot!"
