About this property

Just 10 minutes' drive from Lymington on the Hampshire coast, Gypsy Cottage is a place where guests of all ages will feel right at home. It's position in the village of East End, steps away from the local (gastro)pub, will be a hit with the adults, while children have new outdoor spots to explore, including a marvellous mini gypsy caravan.

Gypsy Cottage is full of charm and quirky touches. In addition to the main house, there's The Shed, providing extra accommodation overlooking the lawn, with a grand, comfy four-poster bed, wood-burner and living area. There's an additional bunk room and a shower room too, so a whole family of four could spend the night in there.

The split-level kitchen gets the best of the sun and forms a great breakfast spot, well-equipped with a range cooker, SMEG fridge freezer and all sorts of other high-end bits and pieces. You have a further two shower rooms and a living room with TV and DVD.

The six bedrooms include two downstairs in the main house - one single and one with triple bunk beds - and a further two king-size beds upstairs. The capacity makes Gypsy Cottage the first choice for a big family get-together. You're welcome to bring dogs too! (and maybe even a horse or two!)

The beach is only about three minutes' drive away, and all the natural wonders of the New Forest are within easy reach of the cottage. The quiet hamlet of East End is somewhere you can really get away from it all, with the inviting atmosphere of the East End Arms next door bound to be a temptation. As well as snuggling away with a book and a pint, you can sample locally inspired dishes and maybe quiz the landlord on the 80s soft rock - it's owned by the bassist from Dire Straits, would you believe.

Local attractions like the Beaulieu Motor Museum and Lymington's beautiful marina offer all sorts of options for days out. You can get a ferry to the Isle of Wight from Lymington, or stay on the mainland and explore its museums, galleries and appealing cafes.

The New Forest is one of the jewels of southern England, covering an area which stretches from the coast, almost as far as Southampton, Salisbury and Bournemouth. Much of it feels a world away from larger towns like these, with an easy-going, relaxed vibe one of the area's lovable characteristics.

Beautiful open spaces with plenty of wildlife to spot make the region the perfect choice if long, bracing walks are what you're after. The famous New Forest ponies, cattle and deer are among the creatures you may see roaming around, and there are many suitable routes for cycling. A fantastic food and drink scene takes advantage of produce grown locally or caught on the New Forest coast - you are just as likely to be impressed in a cosy village pub as a high-end restaurant, and the area has plenty of both to try. Another option is taking a traditionally English Afternoon Tea - there is no shortage of stunning locations in which to do so.

Attractions are many and varied in the New Forest and its surrounds. Many make the most of its popularity as a family holiday destination, like Paulton's Theme Park and Adventure Wonderland, the New Forest Wildlife Park and Marwell Zoo. The National Motor Museum at Beaulieu is as famous as ever, while Lymington's St Barbe Museum and Gallery is a cultural hub down on the coast.

The natural beauty of Furzey Gardens and Exbury Gardens, with its own steam railway, shouldn't be missed... in fact, the biggest problem with visiting the New Forest is deciding what to leave out.
