About this property

This fantastic first floor apartment is perfectly situated in the beautiful village of St Margaret's at Cliffe, known for quiet beaches and being the starting point for cross-Channel swimmers. The village was home to many celebrities including Noel Coward and Ian Fleming, and the very popular actress Miriam Margolyes is still a resident. This huge apartment covers the whole of the first floor of a once grand house, and with many large windows this is a light and welcoming holiday home. Spacious rooms allow everyone a place to relax and unwind after a day exploring this part of the Kent coastline. The large sitting room has a gas log-effect fire, making it perfect for settling down with a good book on a chilly evening, if it's a James Bond thriller all the better! Or why not enjoy an evening together watching a DVD with a glass of wine? The attractive bedroom has a double bed, so both of you can enjoy a good night's sleep, and with wall to wall wardrobes no matter how many clothes you bring, there is always room for more! St Margaret’s is believed to be the first village in the UK to see the rising sun, so why not enjoy breakfast in the sunny kitchen while planning an exciting day ahead. On warm days, lace up those walking boots and stride out over lush countryside towards one of the most famous areas of England, The White Cliffs of Dover, which are only a couple of miles away. Alternatively, follow the beach around to Deal where you can clamber around castles, take a fishing trip or just explore the shops. Cycle your way along the Viking Way if you are feeling energetic, and enjoy the sea views as the miles get swallowed up under peddle power. For those who like shopping there's even a main line station to London just over a mile away at Martin Mill, where you can leave the car and hop on board. Then return as the sun sets, take a couple of glasses, uncork a bottle, and just enjoy a quiet evening sitting on the patio reflecting on a day well spent investigating this lovely part of the English coast.

St. Margaret's at Cliffe has long been a holiday hideaway and during the years has been home to many famous people including Noel Coward, Peter Ustinov and Ian Fleming. Some of the Bond books were indeed written while Fleming was staying at his home in St Margaret's at Cliffe. It is believed he gave his character James Bond agent number 007 after the number of the bus that still runs between London and Deal.
