About this property

Fold Bank sits in an elevated, rural location on the edge of Burn Moor near Bentham, with uninterrupted views towards Ingleborough. Set on the owner's smallholding, with sheep, pigs and horses, this cosy, semi-detached stone barn conversion is just the ticket for a holiday exploring this stunning area of North Yorkshire. From the comfortable dining kitchen, the adjoining sitting room is the perfect place to relax and plan the day’s adventures while upstairs, the three bedrooms will make you feel right at home, providing all the comfort you need after a day exploring, or even shopping! The fabulous views across the valley to the Three Peaks, made up of Ingleborough, Pen-y-ghent and Whernside, provide all the inspiration you need to get out and experience the beauty of limestone country, with its myriad of walks to suit all abilities. On clear days, you can even see as far as The Lake District! Great grey cliffs stand above the dale, criss-crossed with mile after mile of dry stone walls, while ferns make themselves a home in the grikes and cracks of the area’s limestone pavements. For ornithologists, a large variety of bird life can be seen, including buzzards soaring overhead, wheatears, curlews, lapwings and dippers flitting up and down the many becks. Ingleborough Cave offers conducted tours leading you through a most exciting and beautiful underground world of stalactites and stalagmites, sculpted by nature over millions of years. The cave holds many attractions, including the Elephant's Legs and Tail, the Skittles and Pillar Hall. Nearby, you can visit The Forest of Bowland, an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB) and Pendle Hill, an iconic landmark with the local area famous for the Pendle Witches who were hanged in 1652. If you fancy a day out in The Lake District, it is easily accessible in a short drive and the pretty town of Kendal is less than 30 miles away, making Fold Bank a superb base for touring this scenic area, all year round.

The Yorkshire market town of High Bentham is ideal for exploring the Yorkshire Dales National Park to the north and east, with the Forest of Bowland, an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, stretching away to the south. The Bowland fells and the nearby three peaks area of Ingleborough, Whernside and Pen-y-Ghent provide excellent terrain for the enthusiastic walker, while the delights of the Lake District are only half an hour away. High Bentham is a busy little town with a weekly cattle market, good local shops and services and a choice of pubs providing meals. The High Bentham area is threaded with public footpaths and rights of way that are well documented in a local walk guide and cover locations such as the River Wenning or the Great Stone of Fourstones, a relic of the ice age and a spectacular viewpoint.
