This had to be the strangest accommodation I’ve stayed in, and I’ve stayed in a lot.The level of cleanliness left a lot to be desired. I appreciate this is an old building but there are clusters of cobwebs so visible down door hinges in the dining room and other places, furniture seems not to have been moved and cleaned under and lots of dishes in the cupboards were dirty, the majority of dishes already set out on the dining table in preparation for us were absolutely filthy, with wine glasses having mould in them, dead insects in them and in general just dirty - more on that in a bit.One of the 7 bedrooms we got access to has a hole in the floor/wall stuffed with towels to disguise the fact there is a hole; evidently not great when it’s something that wouldn’t take a lot to repair. The games room/2nd kitchen was closed off to us on arrival through the use of a screw locking the door. We had to email asking for access to this, which in fairness was dealt with very quickly, however a man just appeared inside the house without knocking or announcing himself on more than 1 occasion. Having 4 young female children with us, this was a rather unpleasant experience. The advertisement states 4 bathrooms, one of which is an en suite - we only had access to 3; there were 9 bedrooms (depending on which platform you book through there are as many as 12 bedrooms), however we only had access to 7 which caused all manner of issues as we had several teenagers who had to share with their parents. The electricals in the kitchen were terrible. Neither oven was efficient, it took us 5 hours to roast potatoes and 2 hours to cook pigs in blankets. Both need replaced as they just don’t work properly. The dishwasher in the kitchen was awful and everything had to be taken out to be washed after it had been put through 2 cycles, which might explain why the crockery on the dining table was so dirty (minus the dried up insect in the glass). The people on this trip made the weekend however we were very disappointed at the standard of the accommodation - this place could be amazing with some TLC and attention to detail.

Good location for getting into Edinburgh as train station was only a 10 minute walk. Great for large parties of people
