About this property

This former fisherman’s cottage is located in the coastal village of Burghead on the shores of the Moray Firth, a stone’s throw from the beach and eight miles from Elgin. This semi-detached cottage is suitable for a family or small group of friends who will enjoy the wonderful coastline with its many towns and villages just waiting to be explored.

The interior of the cottage includes a cosy sitting room with a small dining area, as well as a compact but well-equipped kitchen. There are two comfortable bedrooms both with TVs, a ground floor double, and a first floor family room with a double and single bed. The ground floor family bathroom completes your well-equipped seaside cottage.

Outside, there is a lawned garden and a lovely little seating area which is a real sun trap, an ideal spot for having a barbecue. Burghead has an excellent beach and harbour with a good selection of local amenities including shops, pubs and restaurants, all within walking distance. The area is a haven for wildlife lovers with an abundance of bird life and Burghead Bay being the ideal place to spend an afternoon seal, dolphin and whale spotting. Although this area has miles of sandy beaches and loads of wildlife you may wish to venture inland and pick up the famous Malt Whisky Trail with over 50 distilleries within easy reach. The popular coastal villages of Lossiemouth and Findhorn can be easily reached, and are well worth a visit, with both offering excellent facilities and activities. Elgin, just over eight miles away, is Scotland’s smallest city and is situated on the banks of the River Lossie in an Area of Outstanding Beauty and is home to many visitor attractions including its famous 13th century cathedral. Fisherman's Rest is a lovely base for exploring this wonderful area. EPC Rating: Band F

Comfortable for the two of us (and dog), but do agree with other comments that the living space would be snug if 4/5 people came. However bedrooms were spacious. House had everything you'd need for a week or so but personally found a few minor issues... WiFi was very hit and miss (this could be weather related as VERY windy), not really an issue for a holiday but was unable to work. Taller people might struggle in the shower as limited height, I was ok (5'4") but my dad struggled. Cleaner was unaware of our booking, so cleaning wasn't completed when we arrived. She was so apologetic when she came later in the week and her details were in the guest book had we needed them (house was clean, I.e changed beds, rubbish removed. Just had items out drying and cleaning products about so didn't feel the need to contact). Overall, we had a good stay :)

The place was very clean except for the air quality, which was very poor due to the oil fired boiler. A constant smell of oil, burnt and fresh, accompanied every move in and out of the place, and the frequent reports and loud rumbles early in the morning were frustrating. It made the pretty front garden unusable.
