About this property

Rhayader 3 miles. A spacious detached property, on the edge of the small hamlet of St Harmon, close to the nature reserve of Gilfach and just a short drive from the thriving town of Rhayader, a perfect base for families or friends to relax after days spent exploring the many mountains and lakes of Mid Wales. Set over two floors, there are three comfortable bedrooms, each with a luxury en-suite, along with a family shower room and a handy cloakroom on the ground floor. The well-equipped kitchen with breakfast area and comfy seating is made cosy on chilly evenings by the addition of a warming woodburner. There is also a large sitting room where everyone can enjoy spending time together, with a pool table and bar, leading onto the dining room in the conservatory with comfy seating - a great space where you can sit down to a hearty family meal after a busy day exploring. Outside, you can relax on the raised veranda and admire the far-reaching views across the lawns and beyond. The village is surrounded by beautiful countryside and is perfect for exploring the Cambrian Mountains and border countryside of Wales. Rhayader is just 3 miles away, a perfect town to enjoy a morning coffee, an evening meal or a tour of the home of Welsh Royal Crystal. The area offers numerous opportunities to enjoy the great outdoors with Gilfach Nature Reserve just 2 miles away, criss-crossed with pathways, whilst the Elan Valley, with its formidable Victorian stone dam is less than 7 miles away. This is a truly stunning area in the Cambrian Mountains; with a diverse landscape and a haven for rare flora and fauna, you’ll find ample opportunities to enjoy cycling, fishing, walking and even stargazing. Take a day trip to the literary town of Hay-on-Wye or to the pretty market town of Brecon, or take a dip in Cardigan Bay at Aberystwyth - all within an hour’s drive. This is a perfect base for exploring the mountain countryside and Elan Valley lakes and is ideal for families and friends to relax after busy days out.

Rhayader is a small Welsh market town with a selection of tea rooms, pubs, restaurants, amenities and unique little boutiques, including local antiques. An added bonus of a leisure centre with a large swimming pool and a weekly livestock market. The Red Kite Feeding Station, on the outskirts of the town is a great attraction not to be missed.

Reported a gas smell, took three days to respond. Asked for help pre arrival for nearest electric charging point to get a response we are in the middle of the countryside and no guidance. For reference one 3.1 miles away and one 9 miles away. Furniture tired, grub and seating even has nails protruding out of the seat. Owner doesn’t respond to messages when you need help. Had scary incident, dismissed again by owner, at 01:30 of someone watching our cars. We left properly early. Skyes and owner didn’t help us at all.

Very spacious, clean and comfortable in a peaceful and beautiful location. Well equipped with everything you could need (except hairdryer, so remember to take your own). Would highly recommend and definitely stay again.

A few negatives though. Wifi very hit and miss. Only area where dogs can be left unattended was the small patio area. Pets are not allowed upstairs in the house (there is a gate on the bottom of the stairs to prevent this). Property was absolutely inundated with flies (we had to but fly papers for each room). The lack of a larger secure area for the dogs to exercise would prevent us tenting this property again.
