The Oaks sleeping up to 9 guests

Perfect location for that family holiday in mid-Wales, with plenty of attractions for all ages.
Dating back to the early 1900s, S21474 is a detached holiday home, originally the home of the engineer to the Lake Vyrnwy Estate and is built of stone with a slate roof. The house has retained many of its original features including panelled doors, parquet wood flooring, sash windows and cornicing, plus the addition of a woodburner all to capture the charm and character. With a large well tended garden and small babbling brook that runs alongside with fantastic views over the local woodlands and mountains from the top this really is a fantastic position for a holiday let. Llanwddyn is a small village within the Lake Vyrnwy Estate, a National Nature Reserve. The area is popular with visitors who can enjoy bird watching, walking, cycling and riding around Lake Vyrnwy and through the Cambrian Mountains and Berwyn Range. There is a post office, cafe and several gift shops which sell local crafts and produce. An award-winning hotel is situated nearby and has a restaurant and spa facilities and offers pheasant shooting and trout fishing in season. The area is a great base from which to explore mid and North Wales, Shropshire and Cheshire, within easy driving distance are Bala Lake, Dolgellau, Oswestry and Welshpool, there are 4 National trust properties nearby, Powys Castle, Chirk Castle, Erddig and Attingham Park. The west Wales coastline is less than an hours drive, similarly are Chester and Bangor on Dee racecourses. Llangollen, Betws-y-Coed and Snowdonia are around an hour and well worth the journey. Outdoor pursuits are available locally with a wide range of activities on offer from gorge walking, white water rafting, canoeing and sailing. Shop 1½ miles, pub 1¼ mile and restaurant 50 yards.

"Fantastic! We had a great time!"
    Tony – 25 Sep 2018
"Perfect for a family get-together with or without kids. Overgrown large hillside back garden and exciting play park fantastic for the kids: sculpture park, lake and and bird hides wonderful for the adults. Owner fixes any problems promptly. Beds comfy. Superb. Thanks, Paul and Sarah."
    Rena – 10 Sep 2018
"Great size house for family get together. Great walks and play area close by to suit all ages. Would recommend taking food with you as no local evening eateries."
    Susan – 5 Sep 2018
"lovely big house for our big family in the perfect location"
    Alistair – 6 Jun 2018
"There were nine people in our party including an OAP, a child and an adult with learning difficulties. The heating was non-existent and having to phone the owner made no difference. There is no justification for this Spartan approach and it ruined our week. Of the four bathrooms advertised, only two were functional and even they were sub-standard. We weren't expecting the Ritz but did expect a baseline level of human comfort. For such a well fitted kitchen, the lack of decent cups, utensils and pans was extremely disappointing. Had the heating been permitted (disgraceful), had the bathrooms all been functional and had the kitchen been adequately stocked with basic items, it might have been a lovely week. As it was, it was a really appalling experience. This property should not be advertised in the way it is as it is clearly misleading to would-be visitors in future."

"This cottage has the potential to be amazing but unfortunately was let down by the lack of heating and poor showers.Plenty of space for the family but we were limited to 2 downstairs rooms due to the erratic heating system. We never managed to get the drawing room warm despite lighting the fire, we were here at New year with snow for some of our stay so this may be better at other times. The location is beautiful and we had many enjoyable trips out. We also enjoyed playing games around the kitchen table."

"We booked in Feb 2017 to spend Christmas 2017 there having read a positive review from the people who stayed last Christmas, you could only imagin our concerns at some of the reviews posted recently. We arrived and found the negative reviews were greatly exaggerated (some true perhaps but exaggerated) yes the showers can be problematic but you can use them, one of the knobs on the range is a bit tricky, but you turn it and the flame goes out so you know it’s off, the tv and the table are fine (no wires that are a trip hazard) and if you have booked a holiday to complain about the size of the tv...maybe the problem was booking a rural place in the first place (enjoy the out doors) and catch up with your favourite programmes at home!!!To quote a phrase it did exactly said what it says on the tin, yes it’s not five star, but it’s in a loverly location, the locals are friendly, it was clean and tidy with everything you needed.7 adults and one infant and only 1 adult was not pleased with it, but the wife is a fussy so and so. So if you nit pick about everything (like her) maybe not for you, if like me and the rest of our party and you get the bigger picture and accept life isn’t always perfect...you will have the perfect stay like we did.Would we stay again? Absolutely and further more would recommend it to like minded people who agree with the above. Come on an open fire, all that countryside, a goodnight sleep and a tv room for those who need it...all I can say is thanks for a loverly Christmas to the owners at S21474 :)"
