Walk across Barmouth Bridge to see where the mountains meet the sea, and enjoy an afternoon on the sandy beach or tackle Cadair Idris. Adrenaline junkies have the nearby popular attractions of Zip World and Bounce Below just a 30-minute drive away. Further afield, the picturesque Italianate village of Portmeirion, the historic Harlech castle. Bryn Hyfryd is a wonderful base for a memorable holiday.
Penmaenpool is a delightful village set alongside the River Mawddach, which winds its way alongside the local town of Dolgellau to the sea between Fairbourne and Barmouth. The village is scattered along the Mawddach Estuary on the Mawddach Trail, against the backdrop of the foothills of Cadair Idris. Boasting a traditional pub alongside the historic toll bridge, a stay in this village is the perfect chance to walk the longer circular walk returning via the railway bridge at the mouth of the estuary. Visit Fairbourne or Barmouth for beaches and steam railways, explore the coastline of the Llyn Peninsula or Anglesey, or head into Snowdonia to tackle the mountains.
