Cyplau sleeping up to 6 guests

A traditional 18th century granite and slate cottage backed by ancient woodland and with glimpses of the sea. An un-crowded sandy beach is just a five minute drive away.
S49939 is a picturesque, honeysuckle clad, Welsh rural retreat nestling in an elevated position and backed by woodland on the edge of Llanbedr village. There are beautiful views over the extensive landscaped garden with glimpses of the sea from the bedroom windows.
The cottage originates from the 18th century when it was two gamekeepers cottages. It has now been converted into a stylish, warm and cosy property with old beams. The name S49939 (pronounced Cup-lie) is Welsh for coupled.
Within the acre garden are meandering paths giving access to several seating areas, many rare plants, topiary, culinary beds, hillside terraces and a green house tended by the owner who lives in the grounds. In the winter it is full of designed shapes whilst in the summer it is a mass of colour and scent. To make life easy there are ready prepared meals using ingredients from the garden in the freezer which can be purchased on an honesty basis.
The village is a 5 minute walk with local shops, bike hire, delicatessen/cafe and traditional inns serving pub food and real ales. Every September there is a popular beer festival and over the May bank holiday there is the North Wales Garden Festival with 22 gardens open to the public. Outdoor activities are numerous with easy or challenging walks straight from the cottage along rushing rivers into the mountains or along the sandy coastline. Within a 5 minute drive the shoreline provides beautiful and uncrowded beaches at Llandanwg and Harlech. There are regular guided beach walks, rock pools, a small harbour, an activity centre and a beach cafe all providing days of fun and freedom for all the family.
The Rhinog Mountains provide a stunning backdrop to the village which lies within the Snowdonia National Park. It is a perfect base to discover hidden places by foot or in the car. Renowned for its mountains such as Tryfan and Cader Idris, lakes, panoramic views, shoreline, historic castles and remoteness there is also an abundance of wildlife to identify. Snowdon, the second highest peak in the UK can be walked or ascended using the famous mountain train.
There is an array of places to visit and things to do in north Wales. Close by impressive medieval Harlech Castle is a unesco World Heritage Site and the Royal St David’s golf course is a 10 minute drive. Further afield there are several narrow gauge steam railways such as the Ffestiniog, Welsh Highland and Tallylyn. The quirky Italianate village of Portmeirion is an architectural gem set in Mediterranean style gardens with excellent dining facilities. The Centre for Alternative Technology, a nationally acclaimed environmental attraction, is a 40 minute drive. For active youngsters there is Zip World with the biggest zip wire in the world and Bounce Below, numerous trampolines in a massive slate cavern, and with old slate quarries at Llechwedd there is always something to do whatever the season. Shop 1½ miles, pub 500 yards, restaurant 3 miles.

    Liz – 20 Oct 2018
"A beautifully presented cottage, well appointed and spotlessly clean. All the rooms are spacious, warm and very comfortable. Jackie, the owner, lives nearby and was very helpful but never intruded. The cottage is well located to explore Snowdonia, and we weren't short of things to do and places to visit. Fans of steam railways, walks and heritage are very well catered for in the area! The welcome pack of home-made goodies, including a lovely cake, was terrific, as was the garden. The cottage had everything we needed, and we thoroughly enjoyed our stay. Definitely on our 'must return' list!"

"Lovely cottage with beautiful garden. Excellent host who made us feel very welcome."
    Veronica – 8 Jul 2018
"Lovely cottage, great location, village is very small but the local pub does great food and violet gin"
    Craig – 10 Jun 2018
"Jackie used to run a high class hotel and her holiday house is of the same high standard. If her garden was on display at the Chelsea Flower show it would win a gold medal. It is near the beach. This area of North Wales has amazing golden sandy beaches. Harlech Castle is a few minutes drive. The rest of North Wales can be accessed via the bridge over to Porthmadog. We will be coming back."
    Bridget – 21 Feb 2018
"A perfect escape! We were a family of 6 for the weekend then just 2 of us for the remainder of the week. The cottage was perfect for us all. It was immaculately clean, all modern essentials and comfort. We loved lighting the wood burner at the end of a day walking and exploring. Jackie was a super host and provided some delicious backing alongside a generous welcome hamper. She has home cooked meals in the freezer for you to purchase which looked lovely but we didn't get around to sampling any. Thoroughly recommend this place and will certainly return."
