Originally the village forge, as the name would imply, this Grade II listed detached character cottage is tucked away in the quintessential village of Binham. Beautifully renovated to retain its original charm, The Old Forge has been transformed into a magnificently stylish and romantic holiday retreat. Creatively furnished to blend an eclectic mix of old and new, emphasis has been placed on comfort and relaxation. A splendidly verdant mature south and west facing garden wraps around the rear of the cottage, exuding the allure of a secret garden.

Now a feature fireplace in the open-plan kitchen/ dining area, the original blacksmith's hearth still stands holding a modern wood burning stove. With everything provided in the well-equipped kitchen, the opportunity to sample the delicious local produce is not to be missed. Share food, wine and conversation long into the evening gathered around the farmhouse table set under original beams. A sympathetic extension houses a sumptuous sitting room with an open fire and french doors overlooking the garden. Also accessing the garden, the inner hallway serves as a convenient boot room. For guests who enjoy a quiet space, a small study with a comfy chair also provides a reading lamp. Curated over one ground floor level, the two bedrooms are situated on this floor. The master bedroom with accompanying dressing room hosts a contemporary four poster king-size bed appointed under a skylight, and is served by an en suite bathroom featuring large free-standing bath. Superbly styled bedroom two also hosts a king-size bed, and is served by a walk-in shower room. Outside, the extensive gardens comprise of lawned areas, box hedging, and mature fruit trees set amongst other foliage. Upon returning from one of the many local walks, muddy dogs and boots can be rinsed off using the outside taps. Parking for two cars is available for two cars to the front of the cottage.

Binham is a pretty rural village, set almost entirely within a Conservation Area, with a good pub, convenient village store and atmospheric Benedictine Priory ruins all just a short walk away from The Old Forge. Only three miles inland from the coastal village of Stiffkey, this hideaway is a perfect base from which to explore this beautiful part of North Norfolk by foot, bicycle or car.

Additional Information

Two well-behaved dogs welcome (small additional charge).

Although there is no starter pack of tea, coffee, sugar, or milk provided, the owner does leave a few welcome treats.

We came back! Unusually for us, in summer, so we've taken several boat rides; to see the seals around the harbour at Wells on the Lucy Lavers - excellent, and the Hickling Broad. Days out at Titchwell, the Hawk and Owl Trust, and Norfolk Wildlife Trust areas have taken up our time. Weather excellent. We have also enjoyed the garden here and the cooler evening breezes. Blackcurrants in abundance with blackberries ripening. Thank you for the goodies and keeping the property lovely.

Just as we remembered it - the cottage in Binham in lovely Norfolk, 3 and a half years on. Your welcome is outstanding here at the Old Forge. The weather has not been boring! But we made the most of the sunny moments. See you soon hopefully.

We took advantage of the 'late availability' week to return just four weeks after our last stay! A remarkable week of April showers with some really, warm sunny days mixed with strong winds and rain. Very much enjoyed a walk from Overstrand to dog-friendly Cromer Pier along the beach and returning along the cliff top path. Even on the windiest day, Holkham beach was a quiet place - in the shelter of the pines. Daily afternoon circuits around Binham, as always, a pleasure. A couple of nice meals at The Chequers - perfect! Thanks, as usual, Sally, for the welcome treats and fresh flowers. We're already lookngi forward to our return in September.
