Guests say

Guests are consistently delighted with their stays at Chateau De Flora, praising its beautiful setting, spacious and comfortable accommodations, and the variety of on-site activities. The property's charm, coupled with its modern conveniences and the warm welcome provided by the staff, contribute to an unforgettable holiday experience. The presence of a well-maintained pool, tennis court, and the option to enjoy home-cooked meals add to the property's appeal.

Guests that stayed at this property said

Reviewers consistently mention the neatness and cleanliness of the chateau, with no negative comments on this aspect. The property is described as well-kept, with clean facilities and grounds.

The chateau's location in the Loire Valley is highly praised for its beauty and tranquillity. It is described as idyllic and perfect for a relaxing holiday, with easy access to local attractions. The score is slightly less than perfect as there are no specific mentions of proximity to essential services.

Guests find the chateau extremely comfortable, with spacious bedrooms, multiple bathrooms, and a variety of dining and relaxation areas. The property's ability to accommodate large groups while providing a sense of warmth and family home feel is particularly appreciated.

The chateau's facilities, including the pool, tennis court, and kitchen, are frequently highlighted as well-maintained and adding significant value to the guests' experience. The slight deduction is due to the lack of detailed reviews on the maintenance of all facilities.

The thoughtfulness of the hosts is evident through the warm welcomes and the occasional mention of a welcome basket. While such gestures are greatly appreciated, it is important to note that these personal touches, although delightful, are not guaranteed for every stay.

About this property

Live like royalty when you stay at this beautiful château in the Loire Valley. Built by a French nobleman over two centuries ago, Château de Flora offers a unique taste of history alongside fantastic amenities and great charm.

Be amazed by the grandiose living spaces on the ground floor. The main salon showcases its 16th century tapestries on the wood-panelled walls whilst antique furnishings surround the marble fireplace. The second salon is ideal for delightful evenings playing cards or listening to music; in the summer open up the French windows leading to the terrace and gardens. Enjoy fine dining with family and friends in the majestic dining room after creating a feast in the brilliantly equipped kitchen. Even kids have been thought of with a lovely children’s corner featuring toys and games.

Up to 13 guests can sleep in six beautifully decorated bedrooms, each one strikingly individual – will you stay in one of the charming bedrooms with its own en suite bathroom decorated with Toile de Jouy wallpaper, the pretty double with its own library cabinet of English and French books or the delightful twin looking over the French gardens? Don’t miss the little chapel on the second floor as well, another one of the enchanting attractions of this home.

Set in over seventy acres of parkland, Château de Flora features a heated swimming pool, private tennis court, table tennis, boules and badminton – enough to keep all the family entertained. Explore the arboretum of over 200 species of rare trees, pick flowers in the walled kitchen garden and relax by the fishing pond.

If you can tear yourself away from the château then you’ll find wine tours, historic villages, canoeing on the Loire and some of France’s most magnificent castles close by. Try local cuisine at the Michelin starred restaurant 10 minutes away or visit the atmospheric on a Thursday morning in Ancenis. The Mont of Saint-Michel day trip is a must and The Puy du Fou medieval park in Les Epesses is fun for all.

The château is just half-an-hour from Angers (37km) which is easily reached by TGV from Paris Montparnasse in 90 minutes. If you arrive by ferry, there is a choice of ports including Saint-Malo just over two hours away or by aeroplane it's just over an hour from Nantes Airport.

The local town is just 5km away where you will find a variety of amenities; make sure you visit the town’s chocolatier during your stay.

The Loire Valley is classified as a unesco World Heritage Site with good reason – some of the most prestigious châteaux of France can be visited for a great day out. Close by, head to Château de Challain-la-Potherie (14km, by appointment only) or admire the 15th century Château du Plessis-Bourré (42km) with its wonderful setting surrounded by water – take a picnic to enjoy in the grounds after a guided tour. Further afield around the city of Tours, you will find the well-known Château de Villandry (140km), Château de Chenonceau (180km) as well as Château Royal d'Amboise (190km) near the tomb of Leonardo da Vinci.

Closer to home, enjoy all that the Loire river has to offer – hire canoes on the river around twenty minutes away in Mauges-sur-Loire or take leisurely boat trips along the river departing from Saint-Mathurin-sur-Loire (56km). Visit the typical Loire town of Ancenis (30km), especially on a Thursday morning with its vibrant market and don’t miss a trip to the town’s Maison du Vin! ndeed, this region is wonderful for wine-lovers with Anjou vineyards to the east and the wineries of Nantes to the west.

The Loire is also well-known for its brilliant cycling route, Loire à Vélo, whilst golf-lovers will appreciate the Anjou Golf & Country Club (40km) in beautiful surroundings. Other outdoor activities include tree-top trails in the Anjou woodland, go-karting near Ancenis and great walking trails. A hot-air balloon ride is another way to discover the amazing landscapes!

Saturday is a good day to visit Angers (37km) with its atmospheric morning market. The town is also well-known for its medieval château featuring 14th century tapestries, wonderful museums and beautiful Renaissance architecture.

Alternatively, spend time in the French city of Nantes (70km) with its recently restored Château des Ducs de Bretagne or you could even drive up to southern Normandy with the outstanding Mont Saint-Michel (160km) just over two hours by car.

Our stay in the small castle in the Loire Valley with two Dutch families was nothing short of great. From the moment we arrived, we were warmly welcomed and there was a lovely welcome basket full of local products. This gesture was the start of an unforgettable vacation. The accommodation itself was magnificent. Classic details, an up-to-date kitchen and the castle was neatly clean. We enjoyed the beautiful weather and the large pool. The quiet environment and the beautiful views contributed to a feeling of complete relaxation. One of the highlights of our stay was the dinner that was specially prepared for us. We have enjoyed a culinary feat in the beautiful dining room, an experience that really made us feel like a dinner on stand. In addition, we were able to enjoy the delicious regional wines during our stay. All in all, a stay to recommend.

We had a great weekend in Chateau de Flora! Everything was clean, functional and the place is splendid. The heated pool did us a lot of good and the surrounding nature allowed us to rest well. The castle is even more beautiful in reality than in the pictures. We recommend it!
