The understated living area houses a cosy seating area finished with splashes of eye-catching ultramarine blue and a large flatscreen TV. Beyond that, there is a beautiful yet minimalist dining set, one which we can just imagine gathering around to enjoy a homecooked meal prepared in the stylishly modern kitchen and bursting with vibrant Portuguese flavours. We especially love the large almost floor-to-ceiling sliding doors leading to the furnished balcony. When the sun is shining (which, honestly, is most of the time in Portugal), why not open up those doors and take that delicious meal out to the balcony to enjoy alfresco? You’ll find sliding doors with access to the same balcony in each of the three designer-influenced, rest-promoting bedrooms, all of which are finished with a calming palette of neutrals and tactile natural materials.
What better way to start the day than by pouring yourself a freshly-brewed cup of aromatic coffee, before making your way onto the terrace to enjoy it alongside the morning paper, the novel you’re hoping to make headway with, or even a rich pastel de nata? As for the two bathrooms, one of which is ensuite, they offer a relaxing space where you can refresh and ready yourself before heading out for the day, or indulge in a little pampering before a night out to sample some of that famous Lisbon nightlife.
Primarily known for its large football stadium that attracts fans from all over Portugal and the rest of Europe, Benfica is otherwise a comparatively quiet residential suburb of Lisbon itself. Though – thanks to an abundance of public transport links and its close proximity to the myriad sights, sounds, and cultural selections of the city centre – you will find yourself amongst everything that Lisbon has to offer in just around 25 minutes by car or bus.
Soak in the slightly more laid-back, family-friendly atmosphere here, take in a game at the stadium (football fans, here’s the perfect excuse), or make the short journey into Lisbon where you will find a rich abundance of cultural, historical, and gastronomical delights. Spend the day strolling through exuberant squares as they bubble with the chatter of locals and visitors alike; making the most of the great shopping opportunities as well as the wealth of fantastic restaurants serving everything from traditional Portuguese to modern haute-cuisine. Or, head for historic castles, palaces, monasteries, and the city’s many miradouros – from where you can take in a mesmerising view over the pastel-hued town and the mighty Tagus River beyond.
Back toward Benfica, you find some low-key family-friendly attractions to choose from, including the popular Jardim Zoological that’s sure to delight any little ones (or not-so-little ones) with a love of animals. Home to dozens of species of animal, the zoo offers visitors the chance to mingle with monkeys and get acquainted with giraffes, while also hosting informative talks and displays which are both educational and interactive. There are worse ways to spend a sun-filled afternoon than strolling through these meticulously maintained gardens and getting to know some surprising new species.
