About this property

Enjoying sublime views over the Minho hills, with a charming private courtyard and an unbeatable location, a stay in Villa Asia is a thoroughly unique, utterly breath-taking experience.

Entering the main living room of the house is like stepping back in time. Elegant, charming and oozing character; floral sofas sit upon traditional tiling, contrasting beautifully with the rustic stone walls, against which rests a chic stove. Contemporary touches blend into the traditional character, such as the entire floor-to-ceiling wall of patio doors that flood the space with natural light. A dining table adjoins the sitting room, next to a second set of vast doors that lead to the vibrant garden. There is a more formal dining area on the other side of the house, with a large dining table for up to ten. The kitchen is bright and spacious, with all the facilities you could need to cook up a storm for the whole group.

With four dazzling bedrooms, there’s space for eight very lucky guests to take in this beauty. There are two doubles and two twins, all on the first-floor, and all four are magnificent! Striking dark-wood bedframes and matching furniture is enhanced by soft lighting and soothing tones. One of the twin rooms also enjoys direct access to a delightful balcony area. All four rooms have ensuite facilities, as well as an extra guest WC on the ground floor. All five bathrooms are totally luxurious: modern, bright, welcoming and fresh.

As if the interior wasn’t perfection enough, the garden is quite something else. The private infinity pool makes for a glimmering centrepiece, flanked by delightful terraced lawns, countless flourishing plants and flowers and all kinds of entertainment options. A football field, a children’s swing and of course the pool ensure that kids (and big kids!) of all ages will find their fun somewhere in the grounds. With space for all the group, you can gather for a light, refreshing alfresco meal in the courtyard, before perhaps retiring to the cosy living room to enjoy a glass of the famous local wine: the Vinho Verde.

Nestled in the fabulous rural landscape of Minho and between so many interesting towns and natural spaces, Villa Asia is in the ideal spot to explore the fascinating history and sublime landscape of the region. Ponte de Lima, one of Portugal’s oldest and most historic towns with a delightful range of shops, bars and restaurants among the ornate squares and cobbled alleyways, and a huge market on the river bank every other Monday, is just 10 minutes away. The country’s only National Park, the mountainous nature reserve of Peneda Geres National Park is under half an hour away and hosts prehistoric remains, walking trails and rugged hills as well as deer, wolves and golden eagles!

Both the delightful market town of Barcelos and the stunning historical centre of Viana do Castelo (where there are even sandy beaches!) are 35km away. The thriving town of Braga, the capital of the district, is about half an hour away and hosts many relics of the region’s diverse history. Minho is a fantastic, largely rural region on the northernmost Atlantic tip of Portugal, bordering the Spanish region of Galiza, with which it shares many attributes. Minho is perhaps most famous as the home of the Vinho Verde, a crisp, dry white wine (although as the name suggests, it is in fact green!) best enjoyed with a local fish dish.

Portugal itself is a small, fascinating country at the most Western point of mainland Europe. The capital, Lisbon, is known for its lively nightlife, with endless bars and clubs full of fun-loving locals and tourists alike, but also has plenty of fascinating history (check out Belém, jam-packed with monuments!) and undulating terrain, famously termed the ‘city of the seven hills’. From Lisbon, it is very quick to travel by the domestic high-speed train line to the city of Braga, which will connect you fairly quickly to Villa Asia.

With a vast coastline with the powerful Atlantic Ocean, Portugal is a true paradise for the keen surfer, or indeed even those looking to try if for the first time. And for those less keen on surfing, the beaches of Portugal are still well worth a visit for their beautifully clear waters and fine sands.
