About this property

Positioned in the heart of the lovely, historic market town of Stow-on-the-Wold rests this impressive pair of self-contained homes, consisting of the main House, Steps Cottage, and the annexe building known as “The Bolt Hole”. Sleeping up to ten guests, it is the perfect holiday home for you and your family or a group of friends to enjoy the wonders of the Cotswolds. This splendid 18th century Cotswold stone cottage has been decorated to a high standard and has all the amenities you and your party require for a great stay. A handy garage fit for two cars is located in the property grounds so you do not have to worry about unloading your luggage from afar.

Upon entering the main house, a sizeable, dual aspect sitting/dining area greets you with wonderful exposed beams, solid beech flooring and exposed stone walls with a woodburning stove that provides a warming effect in chilly winter evenings as you make yourself a warm drink and feel right at home by taking a seat on the window seat and watching the world go by.

Further into the property you will find the well-equipped kitchen which has all the utensils and appliances you require to make a home-cooked meal to enjoy with friends and family, with a useful utility and cloakroom also located on the ground floor, along with a gorgeous conservatory, overlooking the enchanting garden.

Stairs from the hallway lead up to the first floor where you will find the first bedroom containing a super-king-size bed (zip/link, can be twin beds on request) and benefits from dual aspect windows, creating a bright and airy room. The bathroom is located on this floor, where you can have a relaxing soak amongst the bubbles.

Moving up the staircase into the eaves of the house, you will find the master bedroom which has stunning exposed wooden beams and Velux windows, with a king-size bed. The landing space on this floor is able to have two additional single beds on request and the fixed stairgate at the top of the stairs safely encloses the second-floor.

Moving back down to the ground floor, through the conservatory, you will find the wonderfully manicured enclosed multi-level garden; a peaceful place to relax surrounded with bushes, plants and flowers, and a remarkable tree giving shade to the gravel area which is occupied by an outside seating area and gas barbecue.

The Bolt Hole is hidden at the end of the garden, above the garage, with wooden steps leading up to the entrance, which is above the garage. The open plan living area is bright and open and benefits from a sitting area with TV, stylish bedroom with super-king-size (zip/link, can be twin beds on request) bed, equipped kitchen and en-suite bathroom.

Just a short walk from the market square, this property is the perfect location to enjoy the renowned boutique shops, tea rooms, pubs and restaurants as well as the farmers’ market which takes place every second Thursday of each month, featuring inviting local produce. The market square is bustling and is the heart of the community, and as one of the highest Cotswold towns it features many cycle routes and picturesque country walks, boasting beautiful rural views.

Why not spend the day in beloved towns in the North Cotswold such as Chipping Norton, Moreton-in-Marsh and Burford or further afield in Cirencester and Oxford where you will find Blenheim Palace. Or perhaps you want to enjoy the serenity of local neighbouring villages such as Broadwell, Lower Swell and The Oddingtons, where you can reward yourself from a long day walking with a mouth-watering refreshment in one of the popular inns.

For a wonderful stay in the beautiful Cotswolds, stay at Steps Cottage.

The highest town in the Cotswolds, Stow-on-the-Wold, originally an Iron Age Fort, epitomises olde worlde England. This ancient market town has played host to many fairs since the 12th century and today holds a biannual Gypsy Horse Fair, craft fairs and monthly Farmers' market. The vast market square boasts an ancient cross at one end and the village stocks at the other, surrounded by an elegant array of Cotswold stone townhouses, antique shops, tea rooms, traditional pubs, award-winning restaurants and its very own cricket museum. Many walks and cycle rides through the beautiful rolling countryside of the Cotswolds can be enjoyed from the centre of Stow, with the Macmillan Way, Heart of England Way, Gloucestershire and Monarch's Way all running close to the town. Bourton-on-the-Water, known as the 'Venice of the Cotswolds' as the River Windrush runs through the centre, lies in an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty and is one of the most popular Cotswold villages. The Saxon market town of Moreton-in-Marsh and the quintessential English village of Broadway are all within easy reach and make a great day out. Cheltenham (20 miles away) is, architecturally, the most complete regency town in England. A spa town with an incredible range of shops, cinemas, theatres, restaurants and pubs, it is famous for its horse-racing festival in March, culminating in the Gold Cup steeplechase. At other times of year, it is host to literature, jazz, classical music, science and food and drink festivals. Oxford, the oldest university city in England and sometimes called 'The City of Dreaming Spires’ has an abundance of prestigious attractions, including the 38 colleges of the university (half of which date back before 1600), the oldest university teaching room, the Bodleian Library, Ashmolean and Pitt Rivers Museums, and Botanic Gardens. Stratford-upon-Avon, Bath, Worcester and the waterfront city of Gloucester are also within easy reach, making Stow-on-the-Wold an ideal base.
