About this property

An elegant home from home with beautiful views across DartmouthAn elegant home from home with beautiful views across Dartmouth

The perfect escape to the country, The Gables is a detached house built into the hillside in the South Devon village of Kingswear. Set across the river from Dartmouth, this elegant home has the kind of views that’ll have you reaching for your camera phone as soon as you step inside.

You’ll be able to start each day with a coffee on your decked patio area, and glass walls showcase the views across the river Dart and Dartmouth. And just think, you’ll be able to end each day watching the sun go down behind the hills while you sip on a glass of something chilled…perfect. Back inside, and you’ll find space for the whole family in the living room, and those large bay windows mean you can enjoy the views even when you’re cosied up inside.

If you’re dreaming of a property with an English country garden, prepare to fall in love, and we can’t think of a prettier spot to sit for a while and enjoy the views than in this peaceful garden. The Gables is set in the village of Kingswear, and you’ll be able to hop aboard the passenger ferry to historic Dartmouth just across the Dart, or take the Dartmouth Steam Railway to Paignton to explore sandy Torbay. And make sure you head to Greenway in Galmpton, which was the beloved summer home of Agatha Christie.

...barely used the car. The location of the property blew us away - looking up river and across to Dartmouth. We loved the deck to sit out on, and walking down the hill to catch the passenger ferry across into Dartmouth to shop or explore - quite a hike back up again! Whether taking boat trips along the Dart, travelling by steam train (such fun seeing the train pull into Kingswear station below the house) or enjoying the beautiful walks especially along the coast, we found masses to do. Came back much fitter! The house was comfortable and like a family home. Submitted by Massiah on 08/04/2016

... We were 4 adults staying for one week in The Gables. 2 off road car parking spaces are available. The stairs down to the house are quite steep, especially when you have suitcases or shopping. However, the views are so beautiful, it would not have spoilt our stay. All instructions for entry were clear. Once inside, we all loved the warm and comfortable feel of this house. The kitchen was well equipped. Great dining area with views over the river to Dartmouth. A lounge that was lovely and cosy. 3 bedrooms, Both couple's had a room overlooking the river / Dartmouth. Oh and the little xmas tree, was gorgeous. We spent each day out and about, enjoying many of the beautiful walks in the area. The house was lovely to return to each evening for a relaxing meal. Down the hill from the house, is The Ship Inn. A 15th century pub with real ales, and great food. Best fish and chips for takeaway, The Rockfish, Lower St, Dartmouth. Best restaurant, The Grill Room, at The Royal Court Hotel. Excellent food, fabulous building. Thank you to the lovely lady who told us the history and gave us a tour of the building. Thank you to Jeremy who looks after the house. Yes I would stay here again, and yes I do recommend The Gables. Submitted by Jo on 21/01/2016
