The town of Belper, which is part of the Derwent Valley Mills World Heritage Site, has a distinguished history that dates back to the 13th century, when it was known by the name Beaurepaire (beautiful refuge), which it still has today. With attractions like the North Mill, Long Row, and the River Gardens, it is now a lively and busy town. The town features an annual arts festival in May, as well as winter and summer food festivals, a weekly farmers market, and a thriving local music and arts scene. A well-known art and architecture path and an annual arts festival are also held in the nearby historic village of Wirksworth. The well-known Peak District town of Matlock and its neighbour, Matlock Bath, are situated in the stunning wooded gorge of the River Derwent just 10 miles distant. The Matlocks have a wide selection of stores, bars, and eateries in addition to a plethora of other intriguing things. From the cable car that transports visitors to the Heights of Abraham, which is a fantastic location for the whole family, magnificent views of the gorge can be seen.
