The village of Tiptree, located in the lovely town of Colchester, is famous for its jam manufacture, which began in 1864. The jam is made by Wilkin and Sons, a family firm that uses the village name to brand the jam and has a factory with a museum in the village providing an interesting look into the process. Tiptree was a contender for the title of "biggest village in England" due to the area's expansion. Another highlight is the Tiptree Tea Rooms, which has a quaint décor and serves the famous jam, as well as other great home-cooked lunches.
