About this property

Positioned close to the lively centre of Keswick is this stone-built terraced property, Derwent Cottage. Spread over three floors, this attractive abode welcomes families eager to escape to the Lake District, with beautiful scenery and charming attractions in every direction. Allow yourself to fall deep into the plush sofa as you listen to the crackle of the woodburning stove, before gathering at the dining table to plan out your upcoming activities for the next few days. Head on through to the fully-fitted kitchen, complete with a range of integrated appliances amongst sleek worktops and units, here you can rustle up home-cooked meals for all to enjoy. Climb to the first floor and discover the master bedroom, housing a generous super-king-size bed and benefitting from a light and airy aspect due to a tall window, while across the hall rests a fresh bathroom, perfect for rounding off your evenings with a relaxing soak. Climb another set of stairs to reach the final bedrooms, offering a double and a single, both enjoying homely furnishings and Velux windows with views of Catbells and Skiddaw. To the exterior there is a small enclosed courtyard where you can sit out and enjoy the fresh air whilst sipping on your morning coffee, before heading into the town to find the ingredients for a hearty breakfast. Twice a week, Keswick market is open and sells a selection of local food and gifts, while there are also a number of delightful shops and eateries to take advantage of. Grab your walking gear and relish in a challenging walk up the Mountain Peak of Skiddaw, whilst those history buffs will love exploring the ruins of Castlerigg Stone Circle and the charming Keswick Museum. After completing all the in area, venture to the popular locations of Ambleside and Bowness-on-Windermere, where you can enjoy a wealth of interesting shops and attractions or hop on board a Windermere steamer and enjoy a circular voyage of England’s largest lake! A stay at Derwent Cottage promises adventure, all-year-round.

The thriving town of Keswick is the holiday centre of the North of the Lake District and has much to offer the visitor at any time of year. The town boasts numerous shops and restaurants to suit all tastes, as well as offering miniature golf, excellent parks, the famous Theatre by the Lake, a charming cinema, the Pencil Museum, a climbing wall, fishing and great mountain biking opportunities, whilst the beautiful lake of Derwentwater at the head of the stunning Borrowdale Valley is only a few minutes walk from the town centre. Nearby, between Braithwaite and Buttermere is the beautiful Newlands Valley, while picturesque Bassenthwaite Lake is well worth a visit. From a gentle countryside ramble to a challenging hike up Skiddaw or the famous Catbells, there really is something for everyone. Visit Castlerigg Stone Circle, the Jennings Brewery and Mirehouse, a grand house and gardens on the shores of the Bassenthwaite Lake, or take a fabulous boat trip around Derwentwater. With plenty of attractions for the kids, lovely parks and the nearby Lake District Wildlife Park this is a great Lakeland destination whatever the time of year.

The owner of the property made sure that everything was available and comfortable. I would definitely return to the property if I am back in the Lake District and would recommend it to anyone seeking a relaxing stay.

The only criticism being that on our arrival we could not access the keys from the key safe with the key code provided. On contacting the key holder Kim she provided us with the correct key code and seemed surprised that we had not been informed by Sykes as they had had the same problem the week before.
