About this property

Retaining its traditional character as part of a 17thC gentleman’s residence, this elegant Lodge Cottage provides sophisticated living space and true relaxation with far-reaching views over the village to the Lakeland Fells.

Entrance porch, spacious hall, fitted-out 'boot room' and ground floor shower room / WC. Well equipped 'farmhouse' kitchen with large dining table. Bright and spacious lounge, with elegant oak beams, relaxing furniture and wood-burner fireplace, leads to the conservatory and twin bedroom on the ground floor with access to the private patio. Upstairs is the spacious master bedroom, panoramic window and luxury en-suite with double-ended bath. The second cosy, kingsize bedroom with contemporary shower room. Ambleside is a contemporary, characterful Lakeland village with a spectacular backdrop of Lake District fells. Ideal for walking, cycling or boating activities, it is also a lovely spot for contemporary shops, leisurely lake cruises, award-winning Lake District restaurants and cosy traditional pubs. There are 2 cinemas, a Jazz bar and the Lake Cruises leave regularly from Waterhead, a great way to explore without driving. The tiny 'Bridge House' is one of the most photographed places here, sat on a bridge in the middle of the village. There is also the remains of a Roman fort, Galava. One of William Wordsworth's former family homes can be visited nearby at Rydal Mount & Gardens. His Grasmere home, Dove Cottage, is also worth a visit and only a short drive away on the scenic A591. You can also head over the equally scenic Kirkstone Pass to the beautiful Ullswater Valley.

Lying at the northern tip of Lake Windermere, England’s largest lake, Ambleside makes a superb base for touring the central Lakes, with Grasmere and the Langdale Valley just a short drive away. There is plenty to do here - cruises, boat trips and watersports on Lake Windermere itself and numerous shops, restaurants and pubs in the village to suit all tastes. On the lakeside at Waterhead, the parkland offers lovely views down the lake and a short stretch of beach, whilst a walk in the other direction, following Stock Ghyll through woodland, will bring you to the entrancing waterfall of Stock Ghyll Force. Along with the Lake and the great walking on offer, Ambleside is also famous for its annual rushbearing ceremony and the diminutive 17th century “Bridge House” - one of the most photographed buildings in the Lake District and now the National Trust Information Centre.

We had plenty of space for 6 without getting on top of each other and there were more than enough plates, glasses, cutlery etc. Has a washing machine and dryer which I don't think are mentioned in the listing. The conservatory is a lovely place to sit as well as the living room. If you've got young kids it's worth noting the twin room is downstairs and quite far away from the upstairs bedrooms (wasn't as issue for us). The boot room at the front door was well used as it rained every day. It was great to get the wet stuff hung up without it getting in the way. Only a few mins walk from the middle of Ambleside and several walks you can do without needing the car. Guaranteed parking for 1 car, plus a shared space for a 2nd. We had 2 cars and when we did have to park on the street it wasn't an issue.

The only negative is the internet is patchy and drops off all the time, so watching the television through the smart TV is terrible and frustrating.
